Former gymnast Pham Nhu Phuong, also known as Louis Pham, has raised the alarm. She shared her story to help people raise awareness in the digital age.
The incident in which model Louis Pham almost fell victim to a sophisticated social media scam has raised alarm bells about the increasingly reckless tricks of scammers. The scammer impersonated designer Do Manh Cuong, even using a blue-ticked account, to approach her with an attractive but treacherous invitation.
The impostor contacted Louis Pham, offering her a "golden opportunity" to learn and gain experience in the professional modeling field. The condition was a large fee, initially 200 million VND. However, shortly after, this person quickly reduced the price to 50 million VND to appeal to the greedy psychology, creating the feeling of a rare and hard-to-find offer. Louis Pham shared that she was really confused and shaken by this offer. She almost believed it because she thought it was a good opportunity, and she would be able to work directly with a famous person in the industry. Fortunately, the rapid change from 200 million to 50 million made her suspicious. Thanks to this alertness, she promptly called her family, friends in the profession and directly contacted designer Do Manh Cuong to verify. Thanks to that, she realized this was a scam and escaped the trap.
The scammer did not stop at offering an unbelievable price, but also used a familiar trick to pressure and force the victim to act hastily. They made up a story that "the account is being hacked so it cannot be transacted directly", asking Louis Pham to transfer money to another account. This is a common trick, used to avoid being traced and quickly seize the victim's assets.
Immediately after Louis Pham's incident was made public, designer Do Manh Cuong quickly spoke up on his personal Facebook page to warn the community. He firmly affirmed: "I never proactively texted anyone to offer training and then asked to transfer money. All messages from my channel that request money transfers are scams. Currently, there are people impersonating my TikTok channel to scam people. Be very careful." Do Manh Cuong's timely warning has helped many others raise their vigilance and avoid falling into the traps of scammers.
This incident once again shows the sophistication and recklessness of scammers in cyberspace. They not only impersonate famous people, use blue-tick accounts to gain trust, but also constantly change their tricks to suit each target. They often play on greed, gullibility and the mentality of wanting "good opportunities at bargain prices" of many people.
To protect ourselves from these dangers, both Louis Pham and designer Do Manh Cuong have an important message. That is, do not trust in easy invitations and absolutely do not transfer money to strangers. Instead, always check and verify information from many different official sources. If there is any doubt, contact the person or organization directly through their official channels. Only then can we avoid "losing money and getting hurt" scams, protecting ourselves and our assets.
