In 2003, a female student named Wang Na (China) applied for university admission but did not receive an admission notice. Wang Na thought she had failed the university entrance exam so she dropped out of school. Twelve years later, when she applied for a credit card, she discovered that her education level was Bachelor's.
Vuong Na was born into a family with economic difficulties. She went to school while helping her family with farming and taking care of her younger siblings. Despite this, Vuong Na still maintained good academic performance and was admitted to a key high school in the district. This female student became the hope of her entire family escaping poverty.
However, the first time she took the university entrance exam, because she was too worried and under pressure, Vuong Na failed. However, her whole family still encouraged her to study again. The second time, this female student confidently passed because she completed the exam well. Her exam score was relatively high, and she could have been admitted to a university in Ha Nam province.
This female student wishes to become a teacher. However, 2 months have passed since the day her scores were announced, and Vuong Na still has not received an admission notice while her peers have.
Believing that she had failed the university entrance exam again, Vuong Na locked herself in her room without eating or drinking for a whole day. She felt guilty towards her family for failing their expectations for the past 2 years. The female student decided not to continue studying for the exam and went to work to reduce the economic burden on her family.
Because she did not have a university degree, Vuong Na accepted all kinds of jobs, from hotel staff, flyer distribution to factory worker. These jobs all had low salaries, so in the end she had to return to her hometown to help her parents sell vegetables, forgetting her dream of going to university.
Still, Wang Na took a chance when she enrolled at a local youth computer training facility. She studied graphic design, then met and married a classmate. Together, they opened an advertising design shop, striving for a better life.
In 2015, Vuong Na needed to open a credit card to expand her business. When she finished filling out her personal information, the bank employee said her high school education did not match the degree displayed on the information system.
Vuong Na did some research and discovered that she had graduated from the same university she had applied to more than 10 years ago. However, although the names matched, the photo on the diploma was of a stranger.
When the woman told her family about the incident, her mother went to the city's Education Bureau to seek help, but to no avail. However, Wang Na's mother was able to get the phone numbers of the person impersonating her daughter and her classmates that year. Thanks to that, they learned that the "fake" Wang Na was now a Chinese teacher.
Wang Na tried to contact the impersonator but was completely ignored. She herself was unable to apply for a credit card due to paperwork problems, so Wang Na wanted to resolve this matter once and for all.
The woman went to the university she applied to that year. Initially, the school's leadership insisted that they had followed the correct procedures for admission, selection, and awarding of degrees. A school representative said, "We know nothing about this. There has never been a precedent or report of fake degrees at the school."
After Wang Na came to see him many times, the school finally arranged for her to meet with Zhang Yingying. However, the person who came to the meeting was Zhang Yingying's father. Mr. Zhang proposed a solution: "However much money you want, I will think of a solution."
When Vuong Na asked to cancel the fake university diploma, Mr. Truong did not agree because it would affect his daughter's job. When no agreement was reached, the man challenged: "Then you go and report to the police, I'm not afraid."
In early 2016, Vuong Na posted the impersonation incident on social media to seek help from the media, immediately receiving public attention. At this time, the university involved in the incident set up a team of officials to review Vuong Na's degree.
Finally, Mr. Truong had to admit that when he received the news that his daughter had failed the university entrance exam, a young man came to him and offered to help him "buy a place" for 5,000 NDT (17 million VND). This person stole Vuong Na's admission notice, changed her name and information on the documents, and let Truong Anh Doanh replace Vuong Na to go to university. Nine people involved in this incident and the fake degree ring were investigated by the police.
In February 2016, the school canceled Truong Anh Doanh's academic results. This woman later lost her job and had to post an apology. However, Vuong Na was still unable to re-enroll in this school. She decided to retake the exam, was accepted into Luoyang University of Technology (China) and graduated from university at the age of 37, fulfilling her unfinished dream.
