Two employees of Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang (CEO of Dai Nam Joint Stock Company), Nguyen Thi Mai Nhi and Le Thi Thu Ha, who served their sentences at Bo La prison (Binh Duong), were released from prison on the evening of February 14, instead of early June.
It is known that this time, Ms. Nhi, Ha and more than 50 others were reduced or released from prison because they complied with prison regulations during their sentence, and met all the required conditions such as having a good personal history and being a first-time offender.
According to the case file, from March 2021 to March 2022, Ms. Hang and 4 accomplices conducted 57 livestreams at their private homes on Nguyen Thong Street (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) and Dai Nam Tourist Area (Binh Duong). The livestream content seriously offended the honor and reputation of singer Vy Oanh, Dam Vinh Hung, artist Hoai Linh, singer Thuy Tien and her husband, journalist Han Ni, and journalist Duc Hien.
In particular, Ms. Hang invited Dr. Dang Anh Quan, a law doctor, to participate in 11 livestreams as a legal advisor to increase the credibility of her statements.
At the first instance trial, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court sentenced Ms. Hang to 3 years in prison, Mr. Quan to 2 years and 6 months in prison, and the remaining defendants to 1 year and 6 months in prison, all for the crime of "Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals."
In April 2024, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City accepted the appeal and reduced the sentences for Mr. Quan and three former employees of Ms. Hang by 6 months each, compared to the first instance verdict. Ms. Hang did not appeal but also had her sentence reduced by 3 months. On September 19, 2024, Ms. Hang was released from prison early after serving more than two years of her sentence.
At that time, Ms. Hang announced an additional 10 billion VND in support for people affected by storms and floods, and decided not to livestream on all media from October 2.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang hopes that the community will continue to donate and support people affected by storm No. 3, showing the spirit of mutual love, through the account number of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
In addition, Ms. Hang also decided to donate an additional 10 billion VND to help the people of the Central region. This amount will be transferred directly to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang also decided not to livestream on any media from now on. Any social media accounts posting similar content are fake.
At present, according to the information shared by the female CEO, she and her family have gone to Cyprus. Here, Ms. Hang opened a number of livestream sessions that caused a stir on social networks, including the story of the 'exposin.g the shirt for people to see' fight between the female CEO, her son and Mr. Dung. After everything calmed down, the female CEO began sharing many videos on her personal TikTok about traveling around Europe to interact with Vietnamese fans.
Regarding the early release of Nhi and Ha, Ms. Hang also posted information on her personal page. Some netizens left comments such as: "Ms. Hang will definitely make it up to these two children a lot", "Ms. Hang will not regret it, these two will be protected by Ms. Hang for the rest of their lives", "Ms. Hang's two darlings",...
Regarding the case, Mr. Dang Anh Quan (43 years old, former lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law) was sentenced to 2 years in prison, and there has been no official announcement of his early release.
At the trial opened on April 4, 2024, defendant Dang Anh Quan maintained his appeal with the content, requesting the appellate panel to consider evidence and documents that had not been considered by the first instance court and request a reduction in the sentence.
Regarding the evidence and documents that have not been reviewed, defendant Quan stated that the indictment inferred the statements of the defendant and defendant Nguyen Phuong Hang. Specifically, the minutes of the statement recorded that defendant Hang stated that she invited defendant Quan to livestream because she "shared the same viewpoint and aspirations".
According to defendant Quan, Nguyen Phuong Hang's testimon.y stopped there, but the indictment stated "shared views and aspirations in the matter of insulting individuals".
Regarding the livestream on December 24, 2021 related to Mr. Nguyen Vo Hoai Linh, the first instance judgment determined that defendant Dang Anh Quan insulted Mr. Hoai Linh. However, defendant Quan stated that he had provided evidence proving that he was only socially criticizing the article about Mr. Hoai Linh, not personally insulting him, but the first instance judgment panel did not consider it.
Regarding his relationship with defendant Hang, defendant Quan stated that they were just acquaintances and social friends. Defendant Quan said that he was invited by defendant Hang to the livestreams because he read articles analyzing the law on many social issues and medical examinations on defendant Hang's Facebook. In addition, Dang Anh Quan emphasized that he was only a guest and did not receive any mone.y. When there was a livestream, Nguyen Phuong Hang texted to invite defendant; when there was time, defendant would come.
