On the afternoon of January 22, speaking with Tuoi Tre newspaper, Lieutenant Colonel Mai Chien Thang, head of Hoa Vang District Police (Da Nang City), said that he had arrested 3 people related to the death of a male shipper in Hoa Phuoc commune 5 days earlier.
Initially, the subjects confessed that it was due to a conflict related to an order worth 375,000 VND delivered by a male shipper. Mr. Tran Viet Thong (55 years old) sadly recounted the death of his son with many unusual marks on his body.
Mr. Thong said that at around 11pm on January 17, he received news that his son, Tran Thanh (31 years old), had passed away, so he rushed home. "Thanh's wife said that Thanh went to deliver goods for them and was chased and beaten by them. When he got home, he felt uncomfortable and lay down on the bed. Then he called but did not wake up and found out that he had passed away," Mr. Thong choked up and told PL.HCM newspaper.
Regarding the condition of the male shipper during the autopsy, Thanh's father said that a family representative was present during the autopsy. The autopsy determined that Thanh died of a traumatic brain injury and had many bruises on his body.
The heartbreaking incident right before Tet shocked many people. The male shipper had a tragic situation when his parents abandoned him when he was young, and he had to live with his grandparents.
On the morning of January 22, the house of Tran Thanh - a 32-year-old male shipper in Nhon Tho 1 village (Hoa Phuoc commune) - was crowded with relatives coming and going. Thanh had just been buried in the cemetery, and his family was making a tomb for him to rest in peace. Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online, Dinh Thi Dao, Thanh's wife, said that late in the afternoon of January 17, she returned home from work and saw her husband lying on the bed looking tired. At that time, Thanh had argued with someone about an order that had been delivered but had not yet been paid for.
At 10pm, Mr. Thanh took his motorbike and said he would go to the customer's house to get the money for the order. "He came home late at night and went to bed. I thought he was tired, but at 0:30am on January 18, he was no longer breathing and his whole body was cold," Ms. Dao burst into tears.
Regarding the situation of the male shipper, the representative of Hoa Phuoc commune government said that Thanh's family's economy is difficult. His wife is a member of the Co Tu ethnic group, has no stable job, and currently collects bird's nests with a salary of less than 6 million VND/month. Both sides of the family are poor and do not have the means to support the family.
Mr. To Van Hung, Secretary of the Hoa Vang District Party Committee, requested Hoa Phuoc Commune to create favorable conditions and encourage the mother and son to continue living in the locality. In the immediate future, Thanh's family will be classified as poor households to enjoy social security policies, this information was published in the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper.
Male shipper Tran Thanh has a wife and a 5-year-old daughter. Thanh's wife is a Co Tu ethnic. Since getting married, Thanh has worked as a "handyman" and then a delivery shipper. Regarding the case of the suspected beating to death on January 17, the investigation results from the delivery company showed that the order was placed by a female customer named Tr.Th., delivered to the address Giang Nam 2, Hoa Phuoc commune (Hoa Vang, Da Nang).
The order included laundry detergent, wet towels, floor mats... Total value 375,000 VND. Checking also showed that the order was delivered to the customer but many hours later the delivery app status was still not completed. Thanh took a photo of the delivery order and sent it to the company to report the incident.
According to the delivery unit, for unknown reasons, the female customer gave a bad score on the system that evening. On the evening of January 17, a company representative directly contacted to investigate the matter. At this time, the payment for the goods had not yet been completed. Talking to the company representative, the female customer was quite upset.
"We try to explain and hope for understanding because every day the shipper delivers a lot of orders. Each order is only paid 4,000 VND (in addition to the fixed salary). If the customer is late or does not transfer money, the shipper has not completed the job and will not receive the payment.
Because we feel sorry for the shipper, we hope that the customer will sympathize so that Thanh will not be fined. However, the customer still said that Thanh should be fined. According to regulations, if the delivery person has an inappropriate attitude, the company will fine 500,000 VND. However, the incident will be carefully verified before making a decision" - a representative of the delivery unit told Tuoi Tre Online.
