The woman who "flew" 1 billion VND when booking said that the counterfeiters used sophisticated tricks to make her psychologically manipulated. She was very frightened after knowing that she had been deceived, and it was not until she was able to stabilize her psychology.
According to Dan Tri newspaper, the case of a booker who was deceived into losing more than a billion VND at a resort in Ninh Binh shook social media. Recently, the woman in the case, Ms. P.T.T. decided to speak up after a period of wanting to live a closed life. This woman said that thanks to the encouragement of relatives and friends, she has regained her composure. "I speak out because I hope that my story will be a great lesson, alerting everyone to be more vigilant. The trick is very sophisticated and anyone can become a "delicious bait" of these subjects," Ms. T. said.
According to the guest's account, her family had a need to relax on the occasion of Tet, so Ms. T. went online to search for information. Because she has booked rooms through the personal pages of successful resorts many times, Ms. T. is quite confident. Finding a luxury accommodation in Ninh Binh with a personal page with a green tick (showing ownership verification for the account), Ms. T. messaged and was guided by the staff very enthusiastically. After that, because of his busy work, the exchange between the two parties was suspended.
In the days leading up to Tet, the subjects impersonating the resort staff continuously called via messenger to urge Ms. T. to make a deposit in advance. "These people said that the accommodation facility was running out of rooms and that I couldn't reserve a seat if I didn't transfer the mone.y first. I also want to quickly complete the procedure so that I have time to work again, so I ask about the mone.y transfer procedure," Ms. T. said.
Exchanging back and forth, Ms. T. transferred a deposit of 6.5 million VND to reserve a seat for 2 rooms. But not long after, the resort reported that the guest had sent the wrong transfer. Ms. T. was asked to copy the code provided by the resort into the transfer content for confirmation by the accounting department.
Citing a source according to Dan Tri Newspaper, the subjects said that as long as they do it correctly, the accounting department will refund the original deposit because of the wrong transfer. However, if they want to get back 6.5 million VND, the subjects asked Ms. T. to activate an e-wallet app and provide customers with a tutorial clip. The content of the clip is very vague and confusing. Ms. T. watched it 2-3 times but did not know how to manipulate it to be accurate. At this time, the subjects lured Ms. T. to the mone.y transfer section, entered the code in the amount box with the content of activating the e-wallet.
The subject sent Ms. T. a photo of the content "Transaction failed" and asked to enter the e-wallet authentication code to receive mone.y back from the hotel. Because of the stress of wanting to get the original mone.y back, and being constantly force.d to enter the authentication code, Ms. T. entered her banking application, entered the e-wallet code with the numbers sent by the subjects.
Ms. T. transferred the amounts of 9.5 million VND, 125.6 million VND and 379.6 million VND, respectively. "The time of the transaction was 25/1, i.e. 26 Tet. At this time, I was in my office and everyone came in to ask questions. But I was in a confused mood and very stubborn, so I told everyone to go out. I locked the door tightly, sat alone in the room and stretched my head to follow the instructions of the subjects," Ms. T. recalled.
According to Tuoi Tre Online newspaper, on February 6, Ms. T. was still shocked when she remembered the fateful moment, she said that it was Tet 27, busy with many jobs, so her mind was not clear. The subjects constantly pressed to transfer mone.y and follow the instructions, so as if by bad luck, she transferred up to 7 times with an amount of more than 1 billion VND. Before making a reservation, she carefully checked the personal page of the resort with a green tick, so she thought that this was the official page and sent a message to make a reservation.
Currently, Ms. T. said that after being deceived by the subjects of more than 1 billion VND in the form of booking a hotel room online, she went to the Department of Cyber Security and High-tech Crime Prevention of Hai Phong City Police to report.
