Wushu is considered one of the most popular martial arts and has the longest history in the world. Although Wushu originates from China, it cannot be denied that this martial art has brought a lot of glory to Vietnam when it attended the global sports festival.
Wushu is not only a self-defense martial art but also plays an integral role in the culture. Over time, Wushu has accumulated more and more and made more and more great achievements in various fields. Most especially, it is the knowledge of people and the inner world of Wushu practitioners.
Wushu is known as a modern Chinese martial art form that blends elements of performance and martial application. Wushu exercises are martial arts exercises synthesized from many famous schools such as Wing Chun, Wudang, Shaolin, Emi, Khong Dong, Tai Chi,...
In Chinese dojos, Wushu is considered as a martial art with a sporty nature and for Chinese martial arts, Wushu is the representative of the martial quintessence that makes everyone admire.
Wushu represents the elite
In fact, Wushu is an integral part of Chinese cultural history. This is a discipline that is cultivated, covered and closely linked with Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism and hundreds of other philosophical systems of China. For many people, Wushu is not simply a method of self-defense and physical training, but also an expression of morality and a philosophy of life that is reflected in each movement of Wushu.
Those who follow Wushu say that the life philosophy imparted through Wushu has helped them become stronger and more complete. Good quality teachers can make good students, so when one respects Wushu, one will learn great skill. Or even, some people assert that: "By reading a person's writing, one can speak to the author's thoughts, by observing a martial artist's performance, one will know their moral standards".
Wushu is known today as a modern martial art founded in China in the 1950s. However, according to the rich history, Wushu has existed for thousands of years.
Since the Shang Dynasty, Wushu has been systematized and holds an important place in Chinese culture. By the Spring and Autumn period - Warring States period, people practicing Wushu began to be honored, competitions took place regularly and became a content competition in the army.
By the Qin, Han, and Wushu dynasties were more improved. From the development of culture, Wushu gradually became a popular physical activity. As military technology developed, Wushu gradually changed. Especially when gunpowder appeared in the Song Dynasty, Wushu was much more overlooked.
At that time, many people were not satisfied with the position of Wushu, so they fought and tried to do everything to preserve and promote the inherent quintessence of this discipline. Thanks to that, Wushu is more and more popular, practiced everywhere from temples to mountains, to neighborhoods in Chinese cities.
In 1911, when Dr. Sun Yat-sen started the revolution that overthrew the Qing regime and began to promote Wushu as an exercise method. In 1928, Wushu was officially recognized as the most representative national mixed martial art, representing the entire Chinese martial arts.
Wushu is divided into two categories: Wushu Sanshou (Kung fu), which is more about the power of attacks, combination of attacks, and Wushu Taolu (Martial arts), which is more about martial arts or no weapons. Weak focus on body flexibility.
Talking about Wushu Taolu, many people favor this genre as "the sport of red faces". Because, whether you are a professional or an outsider, just looking at it, you have to fall in love with the beauty of this subject. Taolu mainly focuses on movements such as kicks, standing attacks, balancing, pushing, sweeping jumps, somersaults. The flexibility of the athletes combined with the lights and sounds of the competition will create an artistic space like watching a dance performance with your own eyes.
For Wushu Sanshou, this is a subject that has the ability to do as much damage as Muay Thai or kick-boxing, accompanied by knocks, kicks at fast speed and strong force. Therefore, except for the top competition, in the remaining tournaments at lower levels, athletes must wear protective clothing and must compete on a bouncy floor mat to avoid injuries and accidents. In addition, Wushu Sanshou also has regulations such as not to hit the opponent's neck, joints or use elbows, knees or head to hit.
With the development of modern technology and weapons, the concept of Wushu is no longer a military skill, but instead the importance of Wushu is conditioning in the body, a discipline for physical training and character training. Because of these factors, Wushu is included in training courses in security agencies and many schools. In China, many schools have accepted Wushu as part of the physical education program.
Wushu brings glory to Vietnam
In Vietnam, "beautiful and unique" are two adjectives that people favor for Wushu. Since 1989, Mr. Hoang Vinh Giang has received textbooks on Wushu from Russia including 7 lessons recorded in video tapes and brought them back to the country. In the early 1990s, Hoang Vinh Giang established a Wushu research committee consisting of a few dedicated people in the North.
In 1990, the Wushu Vietnam team consisted of 5 athletes for the first time in the ASIAD 11 held in Beijing. Even though he lost the battle at that time, the late martial artist Do Hoa coached the national team and affirmed Beijing Radio that: "We will be close to Chinese Wushu and in just 4 years, the martial artists will defend Vietnam. Nam will be on par with the world's top boxers."
In June 1992, the Hanoi Department of Physical Education and Sports began to invite Chinese Wushu experts to train in Wushu for Vietnamese athletes. After this training period, the Vietnamese Wushu fighters took to the streets of Shanghai and also at the Shaolin Temple, bringing home 23 silver and bronze medals.
From 1993 up to now, the golden generation of Vietnamese Wushu players has continuously won medals at international competitions. Although Wushu comes from China, it cannot be denied that Wushu has brought many glory to our country when attending the global sports festival.
