The inheritance dispute between Binh Phuong and her mother-in-law caused a stir in public opinion in early March. Binh Phuong's decision to file a lawsuit to confirm her inheritance rights from her husband pushed the already sensitive mother-in-law - daughter-in-law relationship to a climax of tension.
In recent days, social media has been abuzz with controversy surrounding Binh Phuong â the wife of the late actor and supermodel Duc Tien. Although the pain of loss is still there, Binh Phuongâs recent actions have pushed her into the center of a storm of criticism, especially when she was accused of using ârudeâ words and intending to âgrab allâ of her husbandâs assets, ignoring the rights of her mother-in-law and daughter. The inheritance battle after Duc Tienâs funeral is gradually revealing shocking details.
Binh Phuong is suspected of being "rude" to his mother-in-law: A post that caused a storm online
Recently, Binh Phuong was caught up in a fierce controversy when he posted a meaningful post on his personal page: "So does that mean that every time I want to take a photo with my friends and family, I have to call her to ask for permission and explain the relationship of each person that Meo and I will take a photo with before taking the photo? So tiring."
Although she did not mention her name, most netizens implicitly understood that Miss Binh Phuong was referring to Duc Tien's mother - Ms. Ngoc Anh. What made public opinion even more indignant was that below the post, Binh Phuong also interacted with comments mentioning her mother-in-law in a negative way. Many netizens voiced their disagreement, saying that she should not have addressed and behaved like that towards her superiors, especially in the context of her family having just experienced the pain of loss. This action was considered disrespectful and fueled negative speculations about the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, which had been controversial before.
Mysterious will and relentless legal battle
Not only stopping at controversies on social networks, the story about the assets of the late actor Duc Tien is gradually escalating into a fierce legal battle between Binh Phuong and his mother-in-law.
In her lawsuit, Binh Phuong said that before her husband passed away, he left a will. According to this will, Binh Phuong was entitled to own the entire house in Linh Dong ward, Thu Duc city, and the land plot in Duc Hoa district, Long An province.
Meanwhile, Ms. Ngoc Anh and the coupleâs daughter â Meo â each received only a portion of the inheritance, equivalent to 666 million VND. Based on this, Binh Phuong filed a lawsuit to request to receive the inheritance according to the will. If this information is correct, it means that Binh Phuong will be the one holding the majority of the late actorâs assets.
However, the story is not that simple. After being notified of the lawsuit by the court, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh - Duc Tien's biological mother - immediately filed a counterclaim. Ms. Anh argued that her son's will provided by Binh Phuong, although notarized in the US, was not in accordance with Vietnamese law. She requested to receive 50% of the value of her son's assets, estimated at about 2.7 billion VND, because she affirmed that it was the joint property of the mother and son.
According to Ms. Anh, the house in Linh Dong ward (Thu Duc city) was jointly purchased by her and the late actor Duc Tien in 2009. However, to facilitate the paperwork, only her son's name was on the title, partly because she was old and did not understand the law. When purchased, the house had only one floor, but later, the mother and son worked together to build and renovate it into a spacious 3-story house. When the late actor moved to the US to settle down, his mother and sister continued to live in this house, while maintaining full payment of all related taxes and fees. Similarly, with the land plot in Long An, Ms. Ngoc Anh also requested to receive 50% of the value, estimated at about 300 million VND.
As for the remaining inheritance (estimated at about 3 billion VND), Ms. Ngoc Anh requested that it be divided equally among the first-line heirs, including her, her daughter-in-law (Binh Phuong) and her grandson, each receiving about 720 million VND. This argument of Ms. Ngoc Anh raised serious doubts about the legality and fairness of the will proposed by Binh Phuong, and at the same time showed her determination to protect the legitimate rights of herself and her grandson.
After the funeral, rumors of a rift between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law spread. At its peak, Ms. Ngoc Anh accused Binh Phuong of not signing the papers to sponsor her to go to the US. Binh Phuong responded that she had not cut off contact and had not sent the death certificate because it had not been issued. However, these explanations were not enough to appease public opinion. Currently, the legal battle surrounding the inheritance is exposing these conflicts more clearly, making the story even more tragic.
