Two Vietnamese flight attendants have been arrested by South Korean police on suspicion of smuggling 300 million won (VND5.4 billion) worth of essential oils into the country. Currently, the investigation agency is actively searching for the identity information of both of them.
MBC reported on Sept. 6, the Incheon Police Department, west of Seoul, arrested two of the four crew members of a Vietnamese airline to investigate mai thuy smuggling.
Two hostesses in their 20s are suspected of hiding a liquid banned substance (cannabis essential oil) worth 300 million won (more than VND 5.4 billion) in cosmetic containers and bringing them into South Korea from April 2023.
According to the police investigation, the two hostesses admitted that they had shipped household goods from Vietnam to Korea with wages of about 68,000 won to 150,000 won (from about 1.2 million to 2.7 million VND) for each shipment.
The stewardesses said they only took shipments without knowing the contents were banned substances.
South Korean police also said the other two hostesses had not entered South Korea recently. South Korean investigative agencies are continuing to search for the remaining two crew members, South Korean police are searching for the flight attendants involved, and expanding their investigation to determine if there are any additional individuals, including South Koreans. joined the case.
According to MBC News, the inspection of luggage involves the process of checking with X-ray scanners of crew members is relatively simpler than that of regular passengers.
The Incheon police said that the practice of Vietnamese flight attendants transporting goods from Vietnam to South Korea to earn extra income has been there for a long time.
Shortly after the incident was discovered, an Incheon International Airport customs officer told MBC they would step up baggage checks of airline flight attendants arriving from Vietnam.
Meanwhile, according to the Hankyung newspaper, South Korean police also detected another flight attendant who was transporting shellfish and are asking the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to coordinate the search.
As soon as they received the information, airlines in Vietnam released initial information regarding the identities of the suspects.
Accordingly, Vietjet Air confirmed that the two flight attendants in the aerial reflection belonged to the airline's crew.
Bamboo Airlines said it was aware of this information. The airline is waiting for verification information from authorities and has not commented at this time.
Also aware of the above information, Vietnam Airlines said that the airline is also verifying from the functional departments and soon has information about this.
Representatives of companies said that for individuals who violate the law or violate labor regulations, they must be strictly handled according to regulations, the unit will not cover up. The reporter will continue to update information about this case.
This is not the first time Vietnam's aviation industry has gotten into trouble related to banned substances in your country. Earlier this year, 4 Vietnam Airlines flight attendants were accused of bringing more than 11kg of banned substances and synthetic shells, hidden in toothpaste tubes, from France to Ho Chi Minh City.
Working with the investigating agency, the hostesses appeared surprised, stunned. The girls wept, saying that when they were in France, they were asked by an individual to "carry some goods back home" and paid more than 10 million VND. At that time, because they were tired of having just had a long flight, they only looked at a few tubes of ice cream through the speakers and saw nothing unusual. This carry-on luggage also passed through the airport in France, but when it arrived at Tan Son Nhat, customs discovered that there was mai thuy.
For the same reason, the missions are trot, the suspect is guilty of committing illegal acts, it seems that the tightening of airport security has not really been strictly implemented, leading to unfortunate consequences at present.
