In recent days, social networks have been abuzz with the news that NBKC (born in 2003, residing in Khanh Hoa province) went missing while climbing Hoang Nguu Son for the first time. By the time he was found, the young man had shown no signs of life.
After 6 days of losing contact, Mr. C. was found at noon on August 10. Everyone sent condolences to the victim's family.
Mr. Hoang Anh Dung, a member of the rescue team on the morning of August 10, was one of the first people to discover Mr. C. Speaking to the press, Mr. Dung said that after days of searching all over the Hoang Nguu Son mountain without finding any trace of Mr. C., to expand the search area, the rescue team with the participation of professional mountain climbers spread out to different areas in a fishbone pattern.
According to Mr. Dung, at noon on August 10, he discovered the victim through a strange smell while searching. Mr. Dung immediately notified a nearby rescue team for assistance. The rescue team had to take a detour for nearly an hour before discovering the victim.
The man added that the location where Mr. C. was found was right on the mountainside, with many bushes, about 5km from the foot of the mountain, about 800m above sea level, near the highest landmark of Hoang Nguu Son mountain, which is 972m. Mr. C.'s body showed signs of decomposition, about 2m away was the victim's backpack and phone.
After finding the victim, the authorities approached the scene to conduct an autopsy, then handed over Mr. C. to his family for funeral arrangements.
Earlier on the morning of August 4, C. left the tofu shop where he was working (on Truong Sa Street, Nam Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province) to climb Hoang Nguu Son Mountain alone. Before leaving, the young man spoke into the camera, telling the shop owner that this was his first time climbing this mountain, he was afraid of getting lost, and if he did not return by 6:00 p.m., he should report it to the police. At around 8:30 p.m. the same day, C. sent a photo taken on Hoang Nguu Son Mountain to his friends. After that, the young man's phone could no longer be contacted.
After 4 days of not being able to contact her son, Ms. Phan Thi Loan continued to follow the rescue team up the mountain to search. "From 5am to 7pm every day, we and the authorities searched all the dangerous areas, some people even stayed overnight to look for my son," she said. The search force currently includes the Fire Police, Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, Nam Nha Trang Ward Police, and many volunteers who are mountain climbers familiar with the terrain of Hoang Nguu Son Mountain.
According to Mrs. Loan, Cuong has lived with his grandmother since he was young after his parents divorced. Although his family was not complete, he did not show any dissatisfaction and soon went to work to help. For the past three years, he has worked at a tofu factory in Nha Trang. He is gentle, independent, and has no girlfriend. His family is encouraging him to get married this year or next year if his job is stable.
"My son works very meticulously, always wanting to make each batch of delicious tofu by hand, dreaming of opening his own shop in the future," said Ms. Loan. Besides work, Cuong has a passion for traveling and mountain climbing. Once, he rode his motorbike to Da Lat to drink coffee and then returned the same day. Mountain climbing is a weekly habit for him, as a way to relax and relieve stress.
When hearing the news that their son was missing, staying at the foot of the mountain for many days with the only hope that their son would return alive, Mr. C's parents were speechless when they received the news that their son had been found but was gone. The image of Mr. C's father sitting absent-mindedly in a corner, holding the phone in his hand to inform his relatives and friends made many people heartbroken. Mrs. Phan Thi Loan (Mr. C's mother) had thought of the worst situation, but still held out hope. However, the truth is that no miracle happened.
According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Nha Trang Ward, immediately after receiving news that C. lost contact while climbing Hoang Nguu Son Mountain, the authorities mobilized hundreds of cadres, militia forces and many volunteer groups of the people to participate in the search.
Hoang Nguu Son Mountain is 972 m above sea level, has steep terrain, many large rocks, some slippery sections, and is potentially dangerous. Previously, many cases of getting lost in this area have occurred, forcing rescue forces to intervene.
Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Nha Trang Ward - Mr. Nguyen Van Minh advised: "People and tourists should absolutely not climb mountains alone. If participating, they need a tour guide, support equipment, check the weather forecast, prepare their health and have basic knowledge of the terrain to avoid risks."
