On the evening of April 14th, the owner of a popular outdoor cafe in Da Lat, often referred to by netizens as "Ms. Long," posted a long video on her personal page to officially apologize for the controversial incident that occurred earlier.
In the clip, "Ms. Long" expresses her remorse for the commotion that occurred at the restaurant, affecting the overall atmosphere. She stated that she felt guilty for making customers believe that they should be greeted by the owner herself. According to her explanation, the restaurant had announced via loudspeaker that, to ensure privacy for all customers, the owner would not approach each table individually. Those wishing to socialize could signal to the staff for assistance. However, this communication may have led some customers to misunderstand the service attitude.
"This was an unfortunate incident. As the owner, I feel very sorry for the misunderstanding. First, I apologize to the customers who were present at the restaurant and had to witness the somewhat noisy situation. Second, I also apologize to the group of customers for letting everyone misunderstand that I was obligated to greet them when they came to the restaurant," the owner shared in the video. The words were spoken calmly and gently, hoping to appease public opinion.
She also emphasized that limiting proactive interaction was to respect the privacy of each group of customers. Not everyone who comes to the restaurant wants to be noticed or filmed and photographed. Therefore, the restaurant has implemented a procedure where the owner only interacts with customers when they request it. However, this announcement may not have been clear enough, leading to unfortunate misunderstandings. "I hope that if the owner sees this video, they will understand. Honestly, I didn't want this to happen. I hope everyone will have a more empathetic view and not use criticism that affects the customers," she added.
Finally, the owner offered her apologies once again to all customers and the online community. She affirmed that this was an unintentional incident and that, as a service provider, causing customer dissatisfaction was her responsibility. She also hoped the matter would soon be resolved so that everything could return to normal.
Previously, the incident stemmed from a video posted on April 13th. In the video, a middle-aged man, representing a group of about 45 customers, loudly protested, claiming that "Ms. Long" passed by without engaging in conversation. According to him, the group came to the restaurant hoping to meet and talk directly with the owner. However, when that didn't happen, they felt disappointed and expressed their strong disapproval.
The clip quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions. Some argued that customers have the right to expect a friendly and engaging owner at a popular establishment. Others defended "Ms. Long," saying that interacting with customers is a goodwill gesture, not a mandatory obligation. They also acknowledged that in a busy business environment, ensuring privacy and order is essential.
Many netizens praised the restaurant owner's tactful handling of the situation and proactive acceptance of responsibility. Some opinions suggested that the timely apology helped prevent the matter from escalating further. Others advised the restaurant to adjust its announcements, or even clearly post its regulations to avoid misunderstandings.
