Currently, on social networks is spreading an image of a person believed to be a monk along with this person's Tinder dating app account information. This is an application to help find a "mate" that is popular with many young people, so it is not surprising that a monastic person, with a mind towards Buddha, participates and responds.
Accordingly, a Facebook account posted to a group with nearly 2 million members information about a Tinder account named "Cuong" claiming to be ordained at Bo De Pagoda (in Long Bien District, Hanoi). Not only that, the bottom of this account also notes: "Namo guru comrade Shakyamuni Buddha. Sac means no, doesn't mean color. A life of color doesn't. What".
The above Facebook account also posted a picture of a conversation with teacher "Cuong". When asked: "I don't live in a pure place, why would I go to this place?", I was answered: "The Five Precepts do not forbid using Tinder. There are religious orders, you have to go to hell yourself."
To another question, this account replied: "Each person chooses a path, the nature of the temple does not distinguish between good and evil. Good and evil, good and bad, good and bad are kept in Bac Tong. According to the orthodox pagoda, Whatever happens, it will happen. Whatever happens, it will happen. That's because of predestined events. There's nothing good or bad here."
The shared post quickly received more than 27,000 interactions and more than 6,000 comments. Many accounts claim that this is a fake account. On the other hand, the picture that this account takes as an avatar is actually of a model in Thailand who cut her hair to participate in a traditional filial piety retreat in the country. This male model has caused a fever for a long time on Vietnamese social networks because of the above image, so it is not difficult for people to remember and recognize.
Huong Nguyen's account commented: "I only heard about Bo De pagoda, but I have not heard of Bo De temple, and even comrade Shakyamuni Buddha, can't believe it." Pham T.My's account commented: "It looks like a fake, very offensive to cases like this". Minh Khoi's account is angry: "Pretend to be a Buddhist and then talk nonsense".
According to some sources, there is no Bo De pagoda in Long Bien district as this account notes. Not only setting up a Tinder account, on Facebook there is also a Fanpage created with the name "Buddhist Temple - Vietnamese Buddhism". Immediately after the incident about the account "Cuong" on Tinder being locked, this page immediately posted information with the content: "Teacher Cuong has now been locked out of Tinder's account. Due to the Venerable's advice to investors and scammers, Multi-level fraud turned to the shore, unexpectedly those donors did not wake up immediately and reported the teacher's nick." This page also said that if you want to find the teacher again, there is an account of Mr. Dong Thich who is still on Tinder.
Venerable Thich Duc Thien (Vice Chairman - General Secretary of the Executive Council of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha) said that the above information will be checked and processed.
It is known that Tinder is a dating application used by many people today. By swiping, expressing feelings to find new friends, then texting and chatting with people with similar interests within close range.
Monks will usually spend most of their lives practicing in temples. As in Vietnam, monks will not get married or have children after ordination.
However, in Japan, it is a long-standing culture for monks to marry. Some monks in Japan are not only allowed to marry and have children, but they can also eat meat and use alcohol. Monks who have sworn not to marry are not allowed to do these things.
Similar to Cambodia, Buddhism in this country does not stipulate that monks are not allowed to fall in love and can marry after returning to the world. Therefore, there was a case where a 52-year-old monk, after completing his religious life, married a 19-year-old wife, causing a fever in social networks.
