Accordingly, from March 1, 2021, three Big C supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City including Big C An Phu, Big C Thao Dien and Big C Au Co officially put on a new look with the name Tops Market.
Four Big C supermarkets in Hanoi (The Garden, Ha Dong, Nguyen Xien, Le Trong Tan) are expected to complete the transformation and upgrade into Tops Market in the third quarter of this year. Thus, after 22 years of working with Vietnamese consumers, the Big C brand will no longer be present in this market.
Some retail experts believe that this can be seen as a move to change the brand name according to the roadmap after Thailand's Central Group bought the Big C supermarket system in Vietnam.
With the goal of serving customers better, the Big C supermarket system repositioned the brand into GO! Big C Hypermarket and GO! All belong to Central Retail Group. The representative of the corporation said that the GO! is a strong transformation on the basis of inheriting the successes of Big C System over the past 22 years, with commitments: more diversified product categories; modern, more comfortable shopping space with upgrades in parking space, seating and integrated booths in the mall; facilities are upgraded to every small detail (such as trolleys, shopping carts, bags,...); and more professional service style, better service quality. The special thing is the GO Hypermarket! still ensure the criterion "Price is always low".
Accordingly, from December 2020, five Big C supermarkets will be renamed to GO Hypermarket, which is GO! Di An; GO hypermarket! Nha Trang; GO hypermarket! Can Tho; GO hypermarket! Vinh Phuc and GO! Ha Long! Expected completion date is early January 2021.
Previously, in April 2016, Central Group announced to receive the transfer of the Big C system in Vietnam with a total transaction value of up to 1.05 billion USD.
This means that the actual name change plan took place nearly 5 years later than the Central Group representative's statement. At the time this group completed the successful purchase of Big C Vietnam from Casino Group in 2016, despite having the right to use this name for 10 years, the Thai retailer still wanted to change its name soon after.
However, the conversion is not easy when Big C is a familiar brand and trusted by many Vietnamese users for a long time.
The shopping space in hypermarkets is assessed to be more modern and comfortable with the upgrade of parking spaces, resting seats and integrated booths in the mall... with a commitment to always ensure guarantee the criterion "price is always low".
Besides converting from Big C to GO!, in the past year, Central Retail said it has also invested in building new GO! at the mall GO! in My Tho, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Buon Ma Thuot, Quang Ngai.
It is expected that in 2021, some other Big C hypermarkets will also be converted to new names as planned.
