Rosé shared that the harsh dating rules in the Kpop world made her hesitant, even scared, when bringing topics like broken hearts and exes into her new song.
After months of silence, Rosé returned to the music scene quietly but with a blockbuster impact with the song APT., featuring superstar Bruno Mars, in mid-October this year.
Near the end of November, she continued to release her second single Number One Girl, although it did not create a global earthquake like the previous song, it still caused a storm and received a lot of compliments.
BlackPink's main vocalist didn't stop there. The two hits above are just to "pave the way" for her first solo album Rosie, with 12 songs written and composed by herself, released in early December.
According to the introduction, Rosie is like the name that bears the personal mark of the beauty born in 1997. Notably, one of the inspirations for this album is the emotional trauma that Rosé experienced from a "toxic" relationship in the past.
Korean media has criticized Rosé for mentioning her ex in public interviews as breaking the strict standards of K-pop with her honesty. For those familiar with the Korean entertainment industry, idols dating is considered taboo, with many K-pop stars having to apologize to fans for missing out on dates.
While most people try to hide their personal love affairs, Rosé, as a member of the top girl group in Korea and the world, publicly sharing them really caused a big surprise.
However, to gain that courage, Rosé had to go through a psychological struggle. In an interview with The New York Times, the 9X singer admitted that the rigid dating culture of Kpop made her afraid to open up.
Rosé revealed that when she first sat down to write about the stories she wanted to tell through her music, she felt nervous and scared. "There were times when I was like, 'Wait, can we say this? Wait, maybe we shouldn't put that word in there. Maybe this is too much. We shouldn't do that, right?'" Rosé shared with the American newspaper.
Ultimately, the Gone singer insists the personal themes in her music are meant to inspire art, not reflect her dating history.
Previously, in an interview with Apple Music, when asked about the challenge of writing a song that comes from the heart, Rosé said that there was a lot to share because those emotions lived with her for a long time after starting a relationship and breaking up.
Rosé also shared on the YouTube show Hot Ones: "Literally, this album is a re-enactment of the last three or four years of me. All the raw and honest emotions that I've never talked about before. It's like a re-enactment of that. So it has a lot of my heartbreak stories and vulnerable emotions built into it. I think that's the beauty of it. That's what I love most about songwriting, you can turn something that's not so great into something beautiful."
Previously, Rosé caused a stir on social media when she revealed 6 songs from her new album in part on livestream. She played short clips of each of the 6 songs, respectively titled "Number one girl", "Game boy", "Toxic till the end", "3 AM", "Not the same" and "2 years". Fans quickly shared short clips of the 6 songs on many social media platforms and expressed their excitement.
On the online community theqoo, Korean audiences gave Rosé many compliments, expressing their anticipation for the album's release soon.
