On May 28, KoreaBoo reported that a podcast produced by two Korean influencers has become the center of controversy on social media when it made a series of serious accusations aimed at top female Kpop artists.
The statements in this podcast quickly went viral and attracted more than 2.3 million views, but at the same time also faced a wave of fierce opposition from fans and public opinion.
The podcast is hosted by Kira â who claims to have been in a relationship with former BIGBANG member TOP â and Wootak, another popular influencer on the social media platform.
In the latest episode, these two people announced that they would "reveal the dark side" of the Korean idol world, but the content mainly revolved around baseless accusations about the private lives, honor, and sensitive relationships of female artists, especially IU and Jennie ( BLACKPINK ).
According to Kira, some female Kpop artists have sought support from tycoons through "barter" relationships, and she even alluded to the act of "selling flowers" under the guise of art.
In a shocking statement, Kira said: "Every Korean celebrity has a different price. If you are a rich Chinese businessman, you can go to the management company and offer to spend the night with anyone you choose, even A-list stars. IU, for example, costs about $5,000 per night."
Not stopping there, Wootak - the co-host of the show - also added a story that was said to be a "personal experience", confirming that he had seen a private clip of Jennie (BLACKPINK) and a famous car corporation heir. According to Wootak, he met this character at a summer camp and was told that he had "made a deal" with Jennie. "He showed me the video, saying that he paid to be with Jennie. After watching it, I realized it was true," Wootak said.
Immediately after its release, the podcast caused a stir in the online community. On social media platforms, thousands of comments questioned, condemned, and called for a boycott of the podcast for spreading false information and tarnishing the artist's image without any concrete evidence. Fans of IU and Jennie were particularly outraged, believing that this was a serious insult to the honor and career of their idols, and at the same time requested legal intervention to deal with the act of spreading false information.
On the Nate forum, many users also expressed their anger: "This is clearly slander", "We cannot allow famous people online to speak ill of others just to attract views", "Jennie and IU did nothing wrong. They became famous because of their abilities, and now they are being used as entertainment".
In fact, this is not the first time K-pop artists have been victims of malicious rumors on social media. Over the years, many idols have been implicated in false stories related to their personal lives, stimulants, or sensitive relationships - most of which originated from anonymous sources, or from individuals who tend to "claim" to be acquaintances or exes of the artists. The consequences are not small: many artists have suffered serious damage to their image, even depression, affecting their spirit and career.
Korean media experts and lawyers have repeatedly warned about the uncontrolled growth of podcasts and livestream channels that "call themselves" investigative journalism. Journalist Kim Hyun-soo said: "Spreading baseless rumors and using sensational tricks to attract views is a manifestation of a toxic clickbait culture that harms transparency and fairness in the entertainment environment."
There is no denying the huge influence of platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and podcasts, where anyone can speak out and deliver content to millions of people with just a video or a short chat. However, taking advantage of this virality to spread unverified information is not only irresponsible but also a serious violation of professional ethics, especially when that content is aimed at individuals with international status and influence like IU and Jennie.
Currently, IU and Jennie have not given an official response to the allegations from the above podcast. Some netizens have also called on the management companies of the two artists to take legal action to protect the artists from malicious rumors.
