For more than 2 months now, Mr. Mai Van Tan (30 years old, living in Can Gio) has been side by side with many volunteers wading through the alleys and alleys in Ho Chi Minh City to provide food and oxygen tanks for the sick patients. may be infected with Covid-19.
In the middle of September 2021, Mai Van Tan is participating in transporting rice to support difficult cases in the city. This work has been done by Mr. Tan since the beginning of July when he decided to leave the "green area" of Can Gio to go to Saigon to support a volunteer group to fight the epidemic. Mr. Tan's day starts early in the morning and sometimes ends the next morning. Mr. Tan said: "I see that people in Saigon have too many things to do, vegetables and food to help people but do not have enough manpower to distribute, so he decided to give it all up to come up here to support. There are no cases of infection in Can Gio.
Although he was managing a homestay at that time, Mr. Tan still did not hesitate to close the door and accept losses to support everyone. Because he understands that this is not the time to make money or calculate more. Mr. Tan shared: "I think the job is still long-term, now I can do small things to help with small things, if everyone is afraid or worried, no one will come to support people. I can do it until I can. where it's good to go there, finish translating and then continue." After going to Saigon, seeing where he needed volunteers to support, Mr. Tan was present to register to participate. From carrying food, supplying food, rice and noodles to supporting medicine, transferring oxygen tanks to F0s, Mr. Tan is not afraid of difficulties.
For more than 2 months, regardless of rain or shine, night or day, Mr. Tan has been hard at work volunteering and supporting people. On rainy days, when he received a phone call for help from F0 for oxygen, Mr. Tan immediately went on the road, carrying oxygen throughout the night to help the patient through the critical crisis. Tired and hard work are there, but Mr. Tan has never felt discouraged. Because just seeing the smile, the bow of thanks or hearing the call of an F0 who just escaped the door of death is enough for him to feel happy. Mr. Tan confided: "There were days when I had to carry an oxygen tank through the night to give first aid to F0, I was exhausted and thought I would collapse. But when I saved people at the moment of life and death, I felt happy and happy. I remember that there were 2 old people in Nguyen Thien Thuat apartment building, their children in Go Vap called for help, after overcoming the crisis, they cried and called to thank me. It makes me remember it forever."
Struggling to find the address of a case in District 11, it took him 15 minutes to reach the house of the person in need of assistance because the elderly man did not know how to show directions. If in the past, Mr. Tan would be annoyed and annoyed when the person in need of help asked to come to the house to give the gift. But after a few months of volunteering, he partly understood that the ultimate goal that he and everyone else is doing is to help people. No matter what the situation is, you have to be patient. Once, because he could not control his emotions, he became angry with the people, which made him regret that he had not really put himself in the situation and position of the opposite person to feel.
Mr. Tan happily said: "This time going to Saigon, he learned, received a lot of things, gained many lessons and experiences. Maybe many people will see him as a crazy guy when he quit his job, accept losses to go to Saigon, rush into dangerous places to carry oxygen tanks, provide food for the people, but he thinks that he can just do it, do whatever he can, make money I'm happy, not doing everything for money. In the immediate future, I feel that what I'm doing helps others. Money can still be earned after the translation, but health is fine."
Perhaps during his days in Saigon, what Mr. Tan felt most guilty about was his family, when he himself refused to listen to his parents' advice and rushed into danger and risk. But he still thinks that when he has health, even if it is a small thing, he can still share it, he will continue to do it.
Mr. Tan confided: "There are many people who will feel shy and afraid to volunteer like this because it's dangerous. I'm scared too, but it's already determined, just trying to stay safe to support me. As much as possible for volunteer groups, where there is a need for human resources, he will come to support. Particularly for work in Can Gio, when the epidemic stabilizes, he will go down there to reopen the homestay." Like many people, what Mr. Tan wants the most right now is that everything returns to normal life, everyone is at peace.
Mr. Tan added: "I hope one day volunteer groups will no longer need to support others because everyone can take care of themselves, then everyone will have a job again. During this epidemic, he felt that everyone needed to be equipped with the most basic knowledge about health, care, and improving their own health. Where are the cold people, where are the warm ones. Hopefully and waiting, Saigon will repel the pandemic."
