The Thai maid became the owner of a huge fortune overnight. The owner, whom she accompanied for 17 years after her death, decided to leave her huge fortune to her inheritance.
The Bangkok Post reported on May 2 that businesswoman Catherine Delacote, 59, died on the Thai resort island of Koh Samui 3 days ago.
Ms. Delacote owns 5 villas with swimming pools in Koh Samui. The businesswoman is said to have handed over assets and cash worth a total of 100 million baht to Nutwalai Phupongta, 49, her domestic worker for the past 17 years.
According to Nutwalai, the property included the mansion where she was living at the time of Delacote's death, a plot of land near the mansion, a car, other properties and cash. Earlier, Delacote had transferred 500,000 baht to Nutwalai to pay for her funeral.
Delacote and her ex-husband, also French, moved to the island 12 years ago. After the divorce, Delacote lived alone in the villa.

According to police, Delacote died on April 29. Her body was found on a pool bed in the villa, with a gunshot wound to her left temple. An automatic rifle, a shell casing, a glass of vodka, a pair of sunglasses and a pack of cigarettes were found near the remains. A bullet was found in the mansion with a bullet hole in the door.
Pool maintenance workers found Delacote's body lying in a pool of blood at 8 a.m., then called a supervisor to alert police.
Mrs. Nutwalai, who has since moved into another home, is convinced that her employer has chosen to end her life. Delacote sent messages to some people shortly before her death, saying she would leave all her possessions to maids. According to Nutwalai, Delacote shared her battle with cancer, but never mentioned her intention to end her life on her own.

The gun found at the scene was purchased by Delacote after a previous break-in at the mansion. Before her death, Delacote also transferred 500,000 baht (about 345 million VND) to Nutwalai to save for her burial.
Police are continuing their investigation to clarify the cause of Delacote's death and confirm the will she left to her maid. The story of the loyalty and relationship between Delacote and Nutwalai has gained particular attention in the community and gone viral, while raising many questions about the legal provisions regarding transnational inheritance of wealth.
As soon as this story was shared, many people expressed surprise and admired the affection of the owner and the maid after 17 years together. Perhaps by the end of her life, the only person the mistress could trust was her maid.

In fact, this is not the first time that a maid has inherited great value from her landlord. Previously, Sir Nicolas Puech, the owner of Hermès fashion house, adopted the 51-year-old gardener and wrote an inheritance will of $ 11 billion. It is known that the 81-year-old billionaire is unmarried and has no children. He is one of the richest people in Switzerland with an estimated net worth between $10.3 and $11.4 billion. However, due to discord with the clan, Peuch came up with the idea of leaving the entire property to the gardener.
His decision left relatives disappointed and controversial. However, outsiders looking at him think he is making the right decision. Although not blood, perhaps the camaraderie and attachment led him to make decisions like this.
