America is going through days of fightin.g fires and wildfires. In the recent big wildfire, a 200 billion VND villa was still intact, making netizens surprised.
The wildfires in the US have left a devastating scene in Los Angeles, with at least 16 people dead, more than 200 people evacuated and 10,000 structures burned down, according to the New York Post. Amidst the devastation, a luxury mansion in the coastal city of Malibu surprisingly remained standing, becoming the center of attention.
This mansion, owned by businessman David Steiner, has 3 floors, an area of nearly 400m², with 4 bedrooms, worth about 9 million USD (228 billion VND). Images recorded at the scene show that the house was not damaged, while neighboring houses were reduced to ashes.
Mr. David Steiner revealed that the house was specially designed to withstand natural disasters such as earthquakes. "I built it to ensure absolute safety. The structure is made of load-bearing bricks and stones, the roof is fireproof and the foundation is 15m deep underground," Mr. David shared.
Initially, he did not expect the house to face the risk of forest fires. "I built it to withstand earthquakes, not fires. But the solidity of the house saved it. The engineers did a really good job," he admitted.
While working, Mr. David received news that the area where he lived had been affected by a fire, many surrounding apartments had been burned down. At that time, Mr. David thought that his million-dollar house was also gone. However, a "miracle" happened.
âThe real estate agent was watching the news and saw the apartments next to mine destroyed. He said to me, âMaybe your apartment will be the same.â It seemed like nothing could survive the fire. I thought my apartment was gone,â he recalled. âBut miracles do happen.â
None of Davidâs family members were present at the time of the fire. The businessman admitted that the safety of his family was more important than the safety of his home.
"I'm not too happy. Mone.y can be earned but people can't," he admitted. "I get a lot of messages asking, people saying, 'We're praying for you. It's terrible.' I say people don't have to do that, what I lost was only my mone.y. Many people are in a much worse situation than me," he added.
The story of the Malibu mansion is not just one of good fortune, but also a reminder of the importance of being prepared for natural disasters. It is also a symbol of hope amid the loss and devastation that nature has wrought.
According to Dan Tri newspaper, as of January 11, the wildfire in Los Angeles, California has kille.d at least 11 people and destroyed or damaged 10,000 structures. About 153,000 people have been evacuated. There are currently a total of 6 wildfire areas in Los Angeles. The efforts of firefighters in recent days have helped to partially control the fire.
However, yesterday, the wind changed direction, causing the fire to spread in another direction after having already burned about 10,000 hectares. Overnight, the fire spread to an area of more than 400 hectares. Officials warned of the possibility of worsening weather conditions in the next 72 hours, which could cause the fire to flare up again.
According to VTV, thousands of people gathered at donation centers, contributing their efforts, mone.y, clothes and food to support the affected people. Hollywood stars also joined in the donations, while local restaurants provided free meals to those displaced.
"The fire burned down my dad's school. Many children and adults are now homeless," said 6-year-old Oliver Lee. Relief and firefighting efforts are underway as residents and authorities hope to prevent further damage from the disaster.
The National Weather Service has issued a red alert for severe wildfire danger through January 15, with sustained winds of 50 mph and gusts in mountainous areas of up to 70 mph. January 14 is expected to be the most dangerous day. According to Anthony C. Marrone of the Los Angeles Fire Department, strong winds combined with low humidity and dry vegetation put the entire Los Angeles area at a very high risk of wildfire.
