This is the information just released by the Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to warn people in the context of impersonation fraud methods continuing to become more complicated.
According to the Department of Information Security, recently, content appeared on social networks that billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong and People's Artist Xuan Bac had a "historic handshake of 2 million USD". Specifically, a Facebook page named "Showbiz Trending-Dua Tin 24h" posted an article titled "Contract No. 1 - Worth 2 million USD of Pham Nhat Vuong for his pet Xuan Bac and the brand he represents - Tomford". The content of the article posted: "The signing ceremony was successful, 5,000 Tomford discount codes were brought to Vietnam, creating a perfume earthquake nationwide".
To increase the persuasiveness of the users, this homepage also posted edited and collaged images of Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong and People's Artist Xuan Bac to exploit the images for profit and deceive consumers. Immediately after that, People's Artist Xuan Bac spoke up to confirm that the male artist's image was stolen and used for the purpose of deception.
According to experts' analysis, for the above "fake brand" and "fake artist" scams, the subjects will create many fake personal pages and social networking sites in a very sophisticated and professional manner. The fake website has an interface that looks like the official website of a famous brand. The subjects can also use similar domain names or change a few characters to make the website look legitimate.
To increase the level of trust, the subjects also create documents, advertisements, or products with the brand name and logo, and cut and paste images of famous artists. The posts of the above scammers often have extremely attractive content such as promotions, deep discounts, products with super cheap prices compared to the market to attract attention and deceive consumers. At the same time, they attach links, asking users to provide personal information such as citizen identification, phone number, bank account number... with the aim of stealing information and appropriating bank accounts.
To avoid becoming a victim, the Information Security Department recommends that people be cautious with posts or information of unknown origin on social networks. People, especially those who regularly conduct transactions on social networks, need to check the authenticity of the information and the seller; create a habit of searching for information about artists or brands on official websites, or reliable sources to verify the legitimacy of advertised products.
In particular, users should absolutely not access strange links; not download applications of unknown origin; and not provide personal information in any form. If they detect fraudulent activities, people should report them to social networking platforms, related websites or the nearest police agency so that fraudulent activities can be handled and prevented.
Before People's Artist Xuan Bac, many famous people were also victims of edited images for bad purposes. A few days ago, football player Doan Van Hau appeared in a post about collaborating with a famous perfume brand with an investment of up to 5,000 billion VND. The post quickly received tens of thousands of interactions.
As soon as the incident was discovered, the male player had to speak up to clarify that it was a composite photo and asked everyone to be careful when receiving information. The artist couple Ly Hai - Minh Ha also said that there was a fake Facebook account, running an advertisement that Ly Hai and Minh Ha were recruiting "easy work, high salary" employees. The artist's family hopes that the audience will not believe the content of the post and will not provide any information.
Experts warn that scammers often create fake pages and social networks that look and feel similar to the official websites of well-known brands. They may also use similar domain names or change a few characters to make the site look legitimate. They also create fake documents, advertisements and products with the brand names and logos, and crop images of famous artists to increase credibility.
