Xuan Hinh: "The old man" sold junk to support his family to a comedian who spent 40 years of his life working as a profession

During his youth, Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh used to sell dogs, sell junk... did many jobs to earn money to make ends meet before becoming a famous comedian. He is also fondly called the "Northern Comedy King" by audiences and fans.

Xuan Hinh was born in 1960 in Bac Ninh, Vietnam. He was born into a family where his father was a teacher and his mother was a housewife. The family is poor and has 7 siblings, so Xuan Hinh's family is quite difficult. Since realizing his parents' hardships, he worked many jobs to help financially.

In 1977, Xuan Hinh was accepted into the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Song Troupe. It is known that Xuan Hinh passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema. He was offered a position as a school lecturer but he refused.

From a young age, Xuan Hinh had a strong passion for singers and this was deeply ingrained in his subconscious. That's why, when he grew up, the male artist decided to follow the path of entertainment art. In 1977, when he was just a high school student, he was excellently accepted into the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Troupe. Here, the male artist has expanded his horizons and learned many things.

After graduating from university with excellent results, Xuan Hinh was offered to stay at school as a lecturer, but he refused and began his career as a singer and comedian. By 1988, his name began to be known to many people and became famous with the work Clown, Festival of Laughs.

Born in the cradle of the Bac Ninh family, Xuan Hinh is the eldest child in a family of 7 brothers. In an episode of the show Happy Memories aired in 2021, the male comedian shared that because his family was poor, since he was a teenager, he had to trade dogs to pay for school and take care of his children.

One night, I took my dog to sell at a far away market and missed the bus so I had to sleep at the station. In the middle of the night, the dogs in the cage barked too much and were scolded, so they had to be released so they wouldn't cry. The next morning, they groped around to find each dog and recapture them.

Xuan Hinh's passion for singing was revealed from a young age. In 1977, he was admitted to the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Song Troupe while still in high school. After 6 years, he took the risk to register for the exam and unexpectedly was accepted into the Hanoi School of Theater and Cinema.

Sharing on television, Xuan Hinh said that the difficult life of his university years led him to become a trader. He said that he traded all the goods in the world from high gold to low bran.

"From the School of Theater and Cinema, I went to the bridge to catch a bus to Bao Yen town, nearly 300 kilometers away. Going from Saturday afternoon, I was there at 7 p.m. to buy clothes, then ride my bike 12-14 kilometers into the forest to exchange clothes with ethnic people for gold nuggets they got from the stream. At night, I cycled with a flashlight, the forest road was smoking, one side was an abyss...

I even bought bags of fillings and brought them to Dau Pagoda in my hometown at 2 am. At that time, I was very skinny. I dragged each bag of filling into people's houses to ask for a place to sleep. I couldn't ask to sleep, so I waited with tears in my eyes until morning...". At one point, he even sold junk to make ends meet.

To achieve the success he has today, the male comedian had to go through a lot of bitterness and swallow tears until he became a famous comedian.

With more than 40 years of contributions to the arts, Xuan Hinh has collected, researched, preserved and experimented with many ethnic arts: chau van singing, preserving 36 bronze prices, more than 200 ancient cheo melodies, 300 songs. Quan ho singing, Xam singing melody...
