At the ag.e of over 70, the male artist chose to live a peaceful, gentle life after a period of suffering from a serious illness. However, when there is a suitable show, People's Artist Minh Vuong still tries to participate in the hope of meeting his audience again.
"The once famous king of reformed opera"
People's Artist Minh Vuong, real name Nguyen Van Vung (born June 1, 1950), is given the title "King of Cai Luong" by connoisseurs.
Minh Vuong's family has 7 brothers, all born and raised in Long An. At the ag.e of 10, he and his parents moved to Saigon to start a career. Because of his passion for Cai Luong singing, he sought out teacher Bay Trach to study. The artist used to work as the adopted younger brother of the main actors and actresses, having to carry and carry things when the troupe moved and performed in other places.
Minh Vuong started singing at the ag.e of 14 and after winning the Khoi Nguyen vong co award, he was invited by Mr. Long of the Kim Chung troupe to sign a contract. After less than a year of singing, Minh Vuong fell ill and had to stay home to recover. A year later, he returned to the troupe and accepted any role with the belief: "If you work hard, you will succeed."
In 1971, Minh Vuong began to shine when he was noticed by record companies and invited to record. Typical works in which he played the leading role are: Lover on the battlefield, The way of the sword Nguyen Ba, Cold night of the deserted pagoda, Tieu Anh Phung, Rebirth of fate, Life of Ms. Hanh... In addition, there are many modern and traditional songs such as: Garden of enlightenment, Mistaken love, Last minute, Sea of love...
Also in this year, Minh Vuong was invited to act in the movie Repentance based on the novel of the same name by Minh Duc Hoai Trinh.
In 1972, Minh Vuong and his wife founded a cai luong troupe that toured everywhere until April 30, 1975. He was an actor of the Saigon Troupe and the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Troupe.
During his decades-long career, he performed with many famous artists such as: Le Thuy, Bach Tuyet, Phuong Lien, Thanh Tuan, Thanh Sang, Minh Phung, Minh Canh, Thanh Kim Hue, My Chau, Ut Bach Lan...
Sharing about his career and life with the media, Meritorious Artist Minh Vuong said that this singing and acting career has no end point, the more he explores, the more he feels he has to learn.
He said: "When I first practiced the role of Nguyen Trai, I had to ask a senior artist to teach me how to act. That time, I asked artist Kim Cuc to come to my house and show me how to clasp my hands behind my back and walk up and down the stairs to look as much like the historical character Nguyen Trai as possible. Honestly, when I stepped onto the stage, I only knew my character, not caring about how the audience was watching because I was afraid that just a little carelessness would ruin both the character and the play."
In 1985, he won the title of Most Favorite Stage Actor after 10 years of liberation voted by Tuoi Tre Newspaper. In 1990, he won the gold medal of the National Professional Stage Festival.
In 2008, Minh Vuong and Le Thuy launched Golden Stage - a socialized program managed by Tran Huu Trang Theater, which is both a playground for veteran cai luong artists and a source of charity funds.
In the same year, Minh Vuong - Le Thuy were awarded the Guinness Record for the longest-serving and most compatible actor-actress couple in Vietnam. In August 2019, he was awarded the title of People's Artist.
"In 2011, after leaving the stage, I kept vomiting backstage, so tired I couldn't sing anymore. At first, I thought it was stomach trouble but it wasn't. When I went to Cho Ray, I discovered kidney failure. At that time, I thought I would have to give up singing from now on," artist Minh Vuong recounted in a conversation with VietNamNet.
He was sad, thinking that from now on he would not be able to sing for his fans anymore. Minh Vuong suffered from kidney failure, which caused his legs to swell, and urination became even more difficult. During those days, he had to undergo dialysis, his health declined, greatly affecting his artistic activities. After that, he registered on the waiting list for a kidney transplant at Cho Ray Hospital and was lucky to receive a kidney from a 34-year-old brain-dead man.
People's Artist Minh Vuong received a kidney transplant on July 1, 2012. After miraculously overcoming deat.h, the artist used this day as his birthday.
Burst into tears seeing parents in their 100s off to Australia
Recently, People's Artist Minh Vuong took his biological parents to the airport to see them off to Australia after a period of time in Vietnam to recuperate, rest, and reunite with their children and grandchildren.
People's Artist Minh Vuong himself is old, at the ag.e of seventy, but he still shows respect, politeness and is very filial to his parents. Although his leg hurts and he has to limp, the male artist still holds his father's hand to walk step by step and accepts to stand to give his parents a seat.
When sitting down, People's Artist Minh Vuong's mother said: "Sit here". The male artist refused to sit down to give it to his mother and said: "You can sit down, I can stand". After that, he stood with his arms crossed, shyly next to his father like a chil.d.
People's Artist Minh Vuong's younger brother said: "Today, I'm taking my parents back to Sydney. I wish you and your brother good health."
People's Artist Minh Vuong was moved to hug his children and burst into tears, saying: "You guys, try to take care of your health when you go there." While taking souvenir photos, he continued to sob, holding his mother's hand tightly. People's Artist Minh Vuong's mother also burst into tears with her son. For a while after that, even though everyone was chatting happily, People's Artist Minh Vuong still shed tears.
Despite his advanced ag.e, People's Artist Minh Vuong's father is still very healthy. He said: "I was able to return to my homeland for 2 weeks, visiting my relatives and friends and was very happy. Today, returning to Australia, I wish my relatives and friends good health and happiness. I am 93 years old this year."
Many viewers were moved and admired by People's Artist Minh Vuong's filial piety towards his parents. Some people congratulated People's Artist Minh Vuong because it is rare for anyone at the ag.e of 74 to still have healthy and complete parents like him to be able to show filial piety, which is considered a great blessing.
