Cai luong artist Hoa My Hanh fell in the toilet, paralyzed, no money for treatment

A month ago, Cai Luong artist Hoa My Hanh had an accident in the bathroom. The injury was so severe that she could not move on her own. Before she could finish her treatment, she had to return home because she did not have enough money.

It is known that at the hospital, doctors concluded that she had a collapsed vertebra due to osteoporosis and initiated active treatment.

The artist could not sit up straight and had to lean against the wall. But after sitting for only 10 minutes, the excruciating pain came back. She could not even go to the toilet by herself and had to ask for help from others.

The female artist said: "I fell in the toilet last month. My spine collapsed and I had to stay in one place. Now I have to sit against the wall, and after only 5-10 minutes I have to lie down because of the unbearable pain. During the month I was in the hospital, I couldn't go to the bathroom by myself. I didn't have any relatives to take care of me, so the nurses helped me change my diapers."

After nearly a month in the hospital, artist Hoa My Hanh asked to go home for about a week now. She choked up and said: "I was in the hospital for nearly a month, ran out of money so I had to ask to go home for a week now, but when I got home I still had no money to buy medicine, diapers. I'm so miserable, all alone, sometimes I just want to bite my tongue and die."

It is known that the treatment costs of artist Hoa My Hanh during her hospital stay were covered by several benefactors, each one a few hundred. In addition, she also has health insurance, so it helped somewhat.

Artist Hoa My Hanh was born in 1955. She said she had no hometown because her father was a singer, moving here and there, her mother followed him and gave birth to her child in a theater troupe. At the age of 7, she was on stage.

At the age of 17, Hoa My Hanh was invited to sing by the artist couple Ut Bach Lan - Thanh Duoc. After that, she went through the singing troupe of artist Tan Tai (Tan Beo's father) and then joined the troupes of Minh Canh, Minh To, Minh Phung...

She once acted with People's Artist Le Thuy and Meritorious Artist Minh Vuong in the plays: Cold Night at the Deserted Pagoda, Mountain Hero, Bach Ma Autumn...

In the 1970s and 1980s, Hoa My Hanh was accepted as a student by Meritorious Artist Thanh Nga , who taught her more about acting. She was also a close disciple of the showman and artist Hoa Phuong, and was nicknamed Hoa My Hanh by him.

Later, she married an actor, had a child and opened a theater troupe. But her husband took a concubine right when the cai luong industry was on the decline. She sold her house to pay off her husband's debt and took her child to find a way to make a living. Her career was ruined, her son died of acute dengue fever and meningitis at the age of 15, causing her to fall into a deep hole.

After the decline of cải lương, she sold fruit on the street and opened a hair salon, but business became increasingly difficult, so she decided to go to Saigon to do nails, massage, cupping, and scraping.

"Before the pandemic, my health was not that bad so I could earn more than 100,000 VND a day. After the pandemic, my health declined, my eyesight was poor, my hands were shaking so no one hired me.

So I clean houses by the hour, clean toilets... I do anything as long as I have money. Because I don't have enough to live on, I still get rice and money from the audience, and the ward also gives me a little support," said artist Hoa My Hanh.

Currently, artist Hoa My Hanh is living in a small dormitory for workers, at the foot of Him Lam bridge, district 7. She rents a room with her sister-in-law who works as a dishwasher.

She explained: "I have been there for more than 3 years now. The monthly rent is 3.2 million including electricity and water. I live with my sister-in-law, my brother passed away more than ten years ago. My sister-in-law is very poor, she washes dishes for others, and her income is not much."

It is known that the daily cost of medicine and diapers for artist Hoa My Hanh is about 200,000 VND, but currently she is unable to make money and is in dire straits.
