After winning the Silver Bell award at the 2014 Golden Bell of Traditional Opera competition, Thy Nhung had more opportunities to demonstrate her abilities and became a familiar name on the stages of reformed opera and folk songs.
Thy Nhung's real name is Linh Phuong. When she was active at the Cai Luong club, her teachers gave her the stage name Thy Phuong.
Born near An Nhon Tay theater (Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City), since childhood, Thy Nhung was trained by Mr. Bay Lap, an artist in the theater, for her first traditional songs and the melodious singing of folk songs. From her childhood passion, Thy Nhung confidently entered the official singing path with a series of awards. In 1998, at only 12 years old, Thy Nhung boldly participated in the Golden Voice contest of Muc Tim newspaper. In 2000, she participated in the Golden Rice contest and won the special prize for the best young contestant. In 2004, Thy Nhung participated in the Television Singing Contest organized by HTV for the first time and reached the final round. In addition, she also participated in many competitions such as the gold medal of the National Professional Theater College and University Festival in 2009, the first prize of the Radio Singing Contest of Kien Giang province in 2010...
Although popular singers nowadays mainly follow commercial music or bolero, Thy Nhung is still loyal to traditional music and is lucky to be able to make a living with her career. "My life is stable and I have many opportunities to continue my passion. There are too many young people coming up in the entertainment industry, many new things, but being able to make a living with my career is happiness. Although people who sing folk music and vá»ng cá» have limited shows, most of the current programs have a place for artists like me if they are willing to "work". Therefore, once I try my best with it, I am lucky to be compensated somewhat. In addition, I have also tried my hand at other fields such as MC, acting, singing bolero... so that the passion for the profession does not cool down. Since I was a child, I have been passionate about the country's folk music. My career and my age are almost the same, so I definitely do not have the idea of changing to become more famous. After many years of singing, I realized that just do your best, being famous also depends on fate", Thy Nhung confided.
Thy Nhung said that before, she had the chance to be taught Cai Luong singing by artists Hoai Thanh - Do Quyen.
Recalling that time, Thy Nhung revealed: "When I woke up in the morning, my teachers made me a glass of milk to go to school. My teachers loved me like their own child. If it weren't for my teachers, I wouldn't be who I am today. Because at that time, I never dared to think that I would leave my family to live alone. I didn't have any relatives here, it was my teachers who offered me the opportunity to study. So I always remember my teachers' love."
After the artist family of Hoai Thanh - Do Quyen settled abroad, Thy Nhung continued to pursue an artistic career.
Looking back on her career, the singer from Cu Chi expressed: "I am lucky because although no one in my family follows the profession to guide me, my parents always support me mentally when I participate in any program. Therefore, I feel very happy on my artistic path."
After that, the 8X singer was changed her stage name to Thy Nhung by a show producer. The female singer said that at first, she was hesitant because her name was similar to artist Phi Nhung. However, during her career, she also met the singer of "Falling in love with a Ben Tre girl" and her spirit was nurtured. This helped Thy Nhung have more motivation to firmly step on the path of art.
Regarding her personal life, artist Thy Nhung did not hesitate to say that she is a single mother with two children. Despite her broken marriage, the female artist still hopes for true love and a peaceful place to rest. Up to now, the cai luong singer and her "ex" still maintain a good relationship, even sharing everything in life.
Expressing her opinion on holding on to happiness so that her children can have a complete family, artist Thy Nhung said: "If you are not happy, your children may witness the sadness, joy, anger and resentment of their parents. Instead of hiding it from your children, you should let them know that their parents are no longer compatible but still love and care for them. That way, they will be more comfortable accepting it than witnessing painful scenes."
Despite being unlucky in love, Thy Nhung still strives to devote herself to art. Recently, she attracted attention when competing in Tinh Hoa Hoi Tu. She expressed: "Apart from feeling nervous, I feel very happy because I can stand on a beautiful stage, be sublimated in the performance and that is what I always try to have a special performance to give to the audience."
