Although the war has passed nearly half a century, the pain of those who stayed is still unrelenting.
Today, there are still many mothers waiting to find a little bit of the remains of their children who have been permanently left on the battlefield. Understanding that pain, more than 130 photos of martyrs were restored free of charge and printed, framed and handed to the martyrs' families, making many people emotional. The most surprising thing is that the beautiful action comes from young men.
Mr. Le Quyet Thang (born in 1991, Nghe An hometown), currently living and working in Hanoi, is the one who initiated the idea of restoring martyrs' photos for free to commemorate and pay tribute to martyrs who died. for the Fatherland.
His main job is interior design. Taking advantage of his free time, he edits photos for everyone for free via social networks, often stitches photos for relatives of the deceased through reunion photos and restores old photos.
Sharing with the media, Mr. Thang said, nearly 3 months ago, he received a message from a son expressing his wish to restore a picture of his father, a martyr who died in 1972. Mr. Thang did not hesitate help. When the restoration was complete, he posted this photo on social media. The story of this photo spread quickly, he received countless compliments and asked for help from the online community.
'Hundreds of messages from the martyr's family poured in, hoping to recover the only photo left behind by the martyrs. Looking at the portraits of martyrs that have faded over time, unable to see their faces clearly, I decided to restore free portraits of martyrs to give to their families and relatives on the 75th anniversary of Invalids and Martyrs' Day. July 27, 2022', Mr. Thang said.
When he shared this idea, he received an enthusiastic response from fellow photographers and his students. Very quickly, the group 'Team Lee' was formed with 6 young men.
"The sacrifice of heroes and martyrs in exchange for peace and independence for the nation makes us young people always feel appreciated and grateful. Everyone in the group is willing to take the time to restore the photos for free as a way to pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs, to comfort their loved ones to ease their sadness, "said Le Quyet Thang.
Starting from June 20, the group "Team Lee" has restored more than 130 portraits of martyrs.
Received a restored photo of her father, Ms. Hoang Thanh (Hanoi) was moved to share, her family took the photo of her father to the restored photo shop to make a worship photo, but because the photo was taken in 1959 before entering the South. During the battle, the image printed on the tissue paper was enlarged, there was a check mark on the face, so the photographer said it could not be restored. Thanks to Team Lee, the photo of the three sisters has been restored beautifully and solemnly.
'The picture is as vivid as my father's appearance. The worship photo is a priceless gift for the anniversary of the death anniversary of July 27 and the families of martyrs in the same situation. On behalf of the family, thank you very much to the team,' Ms. Thanh expressed.
Also thanks to Mr. Thang restoring his father's photo, Mr. Truong Trung (Dong Nai) said that his father was a commando soldier of Military Region 5, died in 1972 while participating in the battle for the station at Cua Dai (Hoi An, Quang Ninh) Nam), so far the grave has not been found. The only relic he left behind is a photograph, but over time it has been damaged, tarnished and cannot be seen.
'The family earnestly wishes to restore his father's photo. When sharing the story, Mr. Thang enthusiastically helps. When I received the restored picture, I watched it over and over again, unable to express my feelings, thank you very much, "Mr. Center said.
Mr. Thang said that at first he called for the restoration, printing and framing of 75 photos for relatives and families of martyrs from June 20 to July 25, but so far the number of successful restoration photos has doubled. and the numbers are not over yet.
Although each person in the group still has the main job, the group still arranges time to gather and work together every day to restore the image.
'Usually, after having dinner around 8pm, the group starts editing photos until 2-3am the next morning. We know families are very hopeful and looking forward, so we will try our best to be able to hand over the photos before July 27," Thang said.
Most of the photos were taken decades ago, the water is blurred and the color is faded. There are many pictures that are redrawn according to the memory of loved ones, so it takes a long time to restore and carefully edit every detail.
'On average, the restoration of each photo takes about 6 hours to complete, but there are difficult photos, taking 3 days to complete. The hardest part of the restoration is the eyes. How to make the photo the most realistic, the most charismatic. Each photo is the work of the whole group, we sit together to exchange, comment, and edit,' Thang said.
In the last days of this July, Thang and his team once again roamed the streets, from Hanoi, Thai Nguyen to Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong... to hand-deliver photos to close families. People who are far away are not able to come and receive them.
Mr. Thang also said that the number of messages the group receives every day thanks to the restoration of photos of martyrs is very high, but due to limited human resources, it has not been able to respond to them all. Therefore, he hopes that photographers across the country will join hands to participate, share with the group, a small but meaningful job.
The Nghe boy confided, looking at the happy tears of the martyr's relatives when holding the photo, he just hoped to help more martyrs' families, helping them to see and preserve the image. loved ones, to always feel that their loved ones are still close by.
