The identity of a man dressed as a monk entering a pub in Go Vap was quickly discovered by netizens, and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City immediately made an official announcement.
On July 24, a source said that the Go Vap District Police (HCMC) was consolidating the case file of a public opinion incident that occurred at a pub in the area.
Accordingly, on the evening of July 22, the police force checked the pub in Ward 17, Go Vap District and brought many people to the drug test headquarters, including Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc (SN 1983, resident of Cu Chi district). Mr. Phuc was diagnosed with a banned substance, so he was sent home.
Notably, Mr. Phuc, wearing a yellow legal uniform, appeared at the pub, causing public anger. In this regard, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City has spoken out.
This man happily attended a party, smiling and waving to everyone. Then, there was a picture of this person at the police station.
The image on social media has caused a stir among netizens. Many people have identified a shaven man, dressed as a monk named Nguyen Minh Phuc (SN 1983). This man is a monk pretending to be, not a real monk, and often causes chaos on social media with many objectionable statements and actions.
Talking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Venerable Thich Tam Hai, Head of the Information and Communication Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Church in Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed: "Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc, who claims to be 'Venerable Thich Tam Phuc' is not a Buddhist monk. About Mr. Phuc's online statements impersonating a Buddhist monk was reported by Venerable Thich An Thuong, Head of the Executive Board of the Cu Chi Buddhist Church in Vietnam".
Through verification, the documents, proving that he is a monk, the appointment decisions for Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc with the signatures of the Most Venerable Chairman of the Executive Council, the Most Venerable Head of the Central Committee for Sangha, the seal of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha, issued to Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc, were made and forged by Mr. Phuc himself.
The medals, medals and certificates of merit of the leaders of the State and the Government are also confirmed by the authorities to be forged by Mr. Phuc himself.
The case of Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc, since 2014, was confirmed by Venerable Thich Chan Tinh, abbot of Hoang Phap pagoda (Hoc Mon district) that he is not a monk at Hoang Phap pagoda and widely announced.
The authorities also informed that the forms of state-level commendation granted to individuals and collectives Nguyen Minh Phuc are not on the list of rewards stored at the Emulation and Commendation Board.
It is known that this man often calls himself "teacher", identifies himself as "Venerable Thich Tam Phuc" and claims to be the "abbot of the Central Hoang Phap Pagoda", often wearing the robes of a Buddhist monk. Objects with objectionable clips boasting that they are eating meat with objectionable statements: "The temple teacher eats dog meat, it's extremely delicious... it's too delicious" or brags that: "...Still eating fish normally, only on the 1st full moon when you eat with Buddhists is a vegetarian".
In addition, this person also often posted clips of obscene speech, claiming that "monks accept all kinds of animal meat", contrary to the tradition of the Vietnamese Buddhist Church, making Buddhists angry and indignant.
Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Cu Chi district confirmed that Nguyen Minh Phuc was a monk pretending to be a monk. House No. 174/13A Lang Cat hamlet is this person's house to live in, not a religious place of worship, without a basis called the Central Hoang Phap Pagoda.
This address previously registered the establishment of 6 businesses with Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc as the legal representative but did not operate. Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Investment has decided to revoke all business establishment licenses at this address.
In addition, the Office II of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has also confirmed that Nguyen Minh Phuc's study papers are all forged, made by this person himself.
Venerable Thich Chan Tinh, abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda (Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that Nguyen Minh Phuc had been to Hoang Phap Pagoda, asked to stay at the temple as well as asked the temple to help with food and school because Phuc's family situation was difficult.
With the compassionate spirit of Buddhism, the pagoda accepted Uncle Phuc to study in the temple. During his time at Hoang Phap pagoda, Uncle Phuc took refuge in the Three Jewels, taking the dharma name Tinh Phu.
However, after the representative of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the authorities spoke out, this man still did not stop dressing like a monk to "interact" with other Youtubers and propagate false information.
Mr. Phuc also pretended to be a student at the University of Law of Ho Chi Minh City, whereby when the school held a graduation ceremony and awarded a bachelor's degree to students, Mr. Phuc came to congratulate a student and rented clothes from photographers to walk outside the school and take pictures in the schoolyard.
Many people believe that the fact that Mr. Phuc constantly appears on social networks and wears monk-like clothes can affect and misunderstand the image of true monks and Buddhists.
