On May 21, according to a revelation from Korean lawyers, the famous music group NewJeans officially submitted to the Seoul Eastern District Court the latest list of legal staff updated on May 9.
This move not only shows careful preparation but also reveals the severity of the ongoing legal battle between the group and management company ADOR.
Notably, NewJeans is backed by 13 lawyers from the leading law firm Shin & Kim, one of the "giants" in the legal industry in Korea. Among them, the most notable is the appearance of lawyers who once represented Ms. Min Hee Jin, former CEO of ADOR, who is at the center of the current noisy dispute.
The fact that the lawyers who once "defended" Ms. Min are now on NewJeans' side makes the public curious: Is this a strategy to turn the tables? Or are they the ones holding the key to help NewJeans gain an advantage in the next hearings?
With a team of experienced, knowledgeable about the nature of the case and with a track record in many major trials, NewJeans seems to be placing high bets on the increasingly fierce legal battle with ADOR and HYBE.
Not to be outdone, ADOR quickly responded by appointing 12 lawyers from Kim & Chang, the largest and most influential law firm in Korea. This is a clear demonstration of the thorough preparation and seriousness that ADOR is putting into this shocking case in the entertainment industry.
The fact that both NewJeans and ADOR have enlisted elite legal teams from some of the countryâs top law firms has pushed this dispute beyond the usual internal scope. It is now a full-fledged legal battle, with each side mobilizing maximum resources to defend its position.
Notably, the number of lawyers present in the legal records of both sides has reached 25 people, 5 times the number of NewJeans members. This number is not legally decisive, but is a strong signal showing the symbolic stature and unprecedented level of tension of the dispute between artists and management companies in the Kpop industry.
Since March, according to the order of the Seoul Eastern District Court issued at the request of ADOR, all of NewJeans' artistic activities have been officially suspended. This ban not only prevents the group from terminating their contract but also locks down all possibilities of independent activities, turning the members from international stars into artists... with suspended creative rights.
This event not only affected the group's brilliant development process but also deeply impacted the psychology of global fans who were witnessing their idols stuck in a legal vortex.
Signs of the groupâs desire to continue creating were suddenly revealed on May 19, when member Danielle posted and then immediately deleted a post hinting at a possible collaboration with the famous American R&B group, Emotional Oranges. This fleeting post, though short, quickly attracted attention from both fans and observers. The deletion was seen as a move to protect themselves, in the context that any artistic activity of the group could be interpreted as violating the ban, escalating legal risks.
The current situation makes it clear: every move of NewJeans is being "scrutinized to the millimeter". No move is simple. No action is beyond the risk of being analyzed, evaluated and possibly becoming a flashpoint in litigation.
The second hearing scheduled for June 5th is becoming the focus of the Korean entertainment industry and international fans. The future of NewJeans, one of the iconic gir.l groups of the 4th generation, is like a boat tossing in the middle of big waves. Will they regain their creative freedom, or continue to be bound by behind-the-scenes battles?
