According to information on the website of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, Cu Chi tunnels were formed during the resistance war against French colonialism of our troops and people, the period from 1946 to 1948. It is completely manually dug underground by troops and civilians, used for the purpose of hiding and hiding weapons.
In the beginning, each village in the area built its own tunnel. Later, the demand for travel and communication between villages and communes increased, so the troops and people decided to connect the tunnels to form a continuous and complex system like spider webs. In total, the tunnel system of Cu Chi tunnels is up to 250km long.
The inside of the tunnel is full of structures such as trenches, food storage, kitchens, wells, living rooms, offices, infirmaries and even soldier effigies. These help to recreate realism and create a special look, emphasizing the elaboration of this one-of-a-kind "underground city".
Coming to Cu Chi tunnels, visitors will be able to visit, admire historical artifacts, and learn more about stories imbued with historical knowledge, associated with the monument from the early days of its formation. Most especially, visitors can also experience as a citizen, a real wartime soldier, living in the "underground city".
Specifically, in the 250km long tunnel, visitors will experience going down and moving in 1 short section. According to visitors who participated in the experience, the hatch and the entire underground path to move and live are very small. "The passage is very small, with a characteristic smell and cold moisture of the soil. The feeling of getting through the hatch and coming down here is really strange and different. At first, I had a bit of difficulty breathing, after getting used to it, I felt better because people also create air circulation lines even if it is only very small", male tourist H.M.Duc (26 years old, from Hanoi) shared.
Another visitor also commented that the space below the tunnel is very dark, with only dim lights, flashes and there will be guides and directions for visitors. However, it was these "difficulties" that made the guests, both domestic and foreign, understand more about the hardship and resilience of our troops and people during the resistance period.
For visitors who are afraid of confined and narrow spaces such as female tourist N.T.Tu (28 years old, from Hanoi), you can visit the space above the tunnel and experience other activities such as shooting, swinging. The dense forest area above the tunnel is considered as an open-air museum, displaying historical artifacts such as tanks, stretchers of wounded soldiers...
