In the first-instance trial in January 2025, the Court ruled to recognize Hong Loan as the legal adopted son of Artist Vu Linh. Accordingly, she belongs to the first inheritance line and is entitled to 85% of the value of the inheritance. The rest, 15%, was divided between artist Hong Nhung – the late artist's biological sister – for taking care of her family when Vu Linh often performed away from home.

However, this ruling did not calm the conflict in the family. Artist Hong Nhung filed an appeal, arguing that Hong Loan's receipt of most of the inheritance was unreasonable. She proposed to the appellate court to determine that Vu Linh had no heirs in the first line. Instead, the people in the second line of inheritance are her and Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu (i.e. Tieu Linh – Vu Linh's younger brother) who deserve to inherit the entire inheritance.

Blood controversy: Hong Loan and the refusal to take a DNA test

In recent years, public opinion has not only been interested in property disputes but also questioned the blood relationship between Hong Loan and the late artist. Although he has repeatedly affirmed that he is his biological child, Hong Loan has not yet announced the DNA results to his family, leading to many doubts.

Recently, in the livestream, Hong Phuong – Vu Linh's granddaughter – openly expressed her question: "Now go for a DNA test with me and Uncle Bay, you have to come out, why can't you come out, the same blood. If you and I give 100% results, you and I will give a lower percentage."

Hong Phuong said that the family just wanted to clearly verify whether Hong Loan was her biological child or not. At the same time, she also emotionally shared her memories with her late uncle, saying that the duets with Artist Vu Linh were "priceless assets" that nothing could replace.

Previously, when a new conflict broke out after Vu Linh's funeral in 2023, Hong Loan once expressed her desire to clarify everything. She affirmed: "The day my father died, I was labeled as adopted. Vu Linh's younger brother also challenged again. According to him, he was the one who witnessed the scene of his brother carrying Hong Loan home, and emphasized that "the truth will be exposed".
