When prompted by Secretary Tran Luu Quang about her concerns in her career journey, singer Phuong My Chi shared frankly and attention-grabbing about the pressures that young artists face in the digital era.
In particular, Phuong My Chi did not shy away but recalled the incident that occurred in 2023, when a sensitive video with an image similar to her was suddenly spread widely on social networks, creating a wave of intense discussion.
According to Phuong My Chi, from that moment, she quickly affirmed that the information was false, and at the same time reported the incident to the authorities for clarification. However, despite the efforts to rectify, the incident still left heavy consequences both mentally and professionally. "This caused me psychological damage, lost revenue and directly affected creative activities," the singer expressed. She also said that she suspected that the video had been interfered with deepfake technology – a technique that uses artificial intelligence to stitch and edit faces and images in a sophisticated way, making it difficult to distinguish between real and fake.
Phuong My Chi emphasized that she is not an isolated case. Over the past time, many domestic and foreign artists have also spoken out about their images and voices being faked to serve bad purposes, from views, defamation of honor to profiteering. Listening to these sharing, Secretary Tran Luu Quang expressed his sympathy and shared with the trauma that Phuong My Chi had to suffer. "I very much share with Phuong My Chi. We will personalize," he said.
At the same time, he also commented that although domestic social network management technology still has certain limitations, compared to many other countries, Vietnam currently controls and manages cyberspace at a relatively good level, and will continue to improve it to suit the rapidly developing reality of technology.
Not only facing risks from the downside of technology, Phuong My Chi recently also became the focus of debate when a part of the audience thought that her performance had many similarities with Jennie (BlackPink) at the MAMA stage not long ago. From the details of wearing glasses when performing, standing on a high platform to the composition of the dancers below, all of them were put on the scale of comparison, creating many mixed opinions on social networks.
Before the wave of debate, the female singer officially spoke out on her personal page. Phuong My Chi admitted that the last performance made the audience doubt the uniqueness, and at the same time created associations with the images of other artists. She affirmed that this is not the direction that she pursues in the process of building her own musical values and artistic personality.
Phuong My Chi also acknowledged that the past year was a period when she actively experimented and explored new possibilities to better understand what the audience expected from her. She expressed her desire to continue to receive companionship, trust and constructive suggestions from the public in her journey of growing up in music. Directly related to the controversial performance, Phuong My Chi apologized to the audience for bringing an incomplete experience.
