Hanoi Maternity Hospital said a baby girl born on May 6 was diagnosed with extremely rare super girl syndrome. What is suprafemale syndrome? Causes, manifestations and how to recover psychologically.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Dao, Department of Obstetrics and Pathology (A4), Hanoi Maternity Hospital, said the girl was the 3rd child of a young obstetrician with an address in Hanoi. Her two previous children did not have this syndrome.
The baby was born on May 6 by normal birth method, weighed more than 3.6kg, was assessed for normal and healthy indicators.
As soon as the pregnancy was at 12 weeks, the mother carried out prenatal screening with amniocentesis, and at the 16th week conducted a NIPT test, detecting a pregnancy with chromosomal abnormalities. Pregnant women receive genetic counseling, monitoring, and pregnancy care.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Dao, super girl syndrome (also known as XXX, 3X or 47 syndrome) is a genetic disorder, a random genetic error, not passed down from generation to generation.
Normally, females and males both have a total chromosome count of 46 and fold into 23 pairs. The 23rd pair of chromosomes is known to be the sex chromosome. Normally, the female will have 2 X chromosomes (called XX), while the male has only one X chromosome and one Y chromosome (called XY).
XXX syndrome will appear when a girl has 3 X chromosomes (called XXX, or 3X). So, the baby girl will have a total of 47 chromosomes.
Some cases of suprafeminine syndrome may not have compromised health including reproductive function, but there are also physical, intellectual, psychological and behavioral effects.
Doctors said they had consulted specifically about this syndrome and the family was determined to keep the pregnancy to term and the baby born healthy.
Suprafemale syndrome, also known as XXX, 3X or 47 syndrome, is a genetic phenomenon that can be seen in girls who receive more than 1 X chromosome from their parents. As we all know, normally girls will have 2 XX chromosomes. When there are 3 X chromosomes, in some cases children may not suffer any harm to their health, but there are children who are affected physically, psychologically and behaviorally from mild to severe.
According to data from the US National Institutes of Health, an average of one in every 1,000 girls has suprafemale syndrome, about 5-10 girls are born each year.
Depending on the symptoms manifested as well as the degree of the disease, the method of remedying the superfeminine syndrome in each patient will vary.
Chromosomal molecules are factors that help regulate traits inherited from one generation to the next, including hair, eyes, skin, and sex. Offspring will inherit genetic traits contained in chromosomes from their parents. Each person has 46 chromosomes from birth, including a pair of sex-regulating chromosomes that are XX (female) or XY (male).
During cell division or the period after conception, a random incident occurs, an X chromosome is added to the girl's existing XX pair, resulting in XXX syndrome. Sometimes the manifestation of this syndrome is very mild because the excess X chromosome only appears in a small number of cells, so the syndrome does not affect the patient too much.
Sadly, so far there are no measures to help prevent suprafemale syndrome.
The manifestations of suprafemale syndrome will be different in people with the disease, in mild symptoms will not detect external abnormalities, they will vary according to the condition of the sufferer, including common manifestations such as:
· Height is superior to ordinary people.
· Intelligence is still developed, but lower when compared to other women.
· A little heavier may have an intellectual disability or have some behavioral problems.
Signs in people with 3X syndrome such as girls, teenage girls, or women are all at high risk:
· Psychological effects, or excessive depression and anxiety.
· Delayed development of language and motor skills such as running and walking.
· Slow reading comprehension in learning, doing math.
· The finger is abnormally bent.
· Affects motor skills, memory, judgment and information processing.
· Personality disorder, lack of attention/hyperactivity (ADHD), or symptoms of autism.
According to many cases, girls who receive early intervention will have a better life than their peers who do not, so those diagnosed with suprafemale syndrome need to be carefully monitored for their health, complications that can be related to the heart and kidneys.
Suprafeminine syndrome has no pronounced symptoms, is so difficult that diagnosis cannot be seen, the condition is noticed only when girls do not meet intellectual standards at normal developmental milestones. Most girls with suprafemale syndrome lead healthy lives when they are diagnosed and psychologically intervened and monitored promptly.
