Dinh Toan: Discovered by Thanh Loc, now he is a director, U50 single

Luckily discovered by Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, who created favorable conditions to help, Dinh Toan quickly became a familiar face to everyone, especially the 9x generation through the series Old Stories followed by Once Upon a Time.

Recalling the golden age of his career, Dinh Toan excitedly said: Although I own many wigs, I still consider this blonde wig the most special souvenir because it marks my first television role and leaves my name in the hearts of the audience.

The Liu Lo children's theater group at that time was a gathering place for famous names such as Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, artist Thanh Thuy, artist Bach Long and artist Hoang Trinh.

I had to face a lot of pressure when standing with my seniors, especially Thanh Loc. People said I had nothing worthy to stand with the talents of the city's drama village.

However, I still worked with my seniors without any hesitation. It was Mr. Thanh Loc who invited me to take on the role of clown Li Lac.

Twenty-five years ago, television was still the main form of entertainment. There was a time when viewers sent the station three sacks of letters, which the entire editorial department had to share among themselves. Even actors took letters home to feel the public's affection.

At first, I didn't think I would pursue art, but when I decided to stick with the profession, I returned to the School of Theater and Cinema.

Because I was too old to study acting, I signed up for a directing class. At first, it was just to learn more about the profession, but then directing gave me a broader and more comprehensive view, which is good for my future work.

After that, I directed many adult plays at Idecaf theater, including the Once Upon a Time series with notable plays such as Fairy Tales of the Land of the Rising Sun, Monster Museum, Swans, Sinbad, and most recently Descendants of the Sun.

In every children's play, I am deeply involved in the process of composing and arranging the music. The director has to work with the musicians, deciding the tempo, the number of repetitions, the duration of the scene transitions...

Even the rhythm is a story, everything has to work with the musician and bear the director's mark in it. As a director and performer, I understand how to express myself so that the audience can fully feel it. When the music starts, I always put myself in the audience's position to make decisions.

Not everyone who is innocent and mischievous can become an actor. Luckily, at first, I was able to 'ride' on the fame of my seniors, but that also put a lot of pressure on me to not fall behind. I had to try 5, 10 times harder to not make my seniors sad.

Looking back on my 25-year career, I believe that each stage requires its own choices and the important thing is not to be greedy to avoid overload. The decision that I am most satisfied with is studying directing.

That was when I decided to do art properly, choose it as my official job and do it properly and seriously."

In addition to acting and hosting, Dinh Toan is also the director of many major plays and television programs. He was the director of famous plays such as: Puss in Boots, Fairy Tales of Japan, Lord of All Animals, The Adventures of Captain Sinbad.

General director of television shows such as Tinh hoa hoi tu, Sao noi ngoi nhi, Tieu lam tu tru nhi,... Regardless of the role, the work that Dinh Toan has participated in for more than 20 years of his career is mostly related to children.

With his talent and passion for art, when Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc left IDECAF and founded Thien Dang theater, producer Huynh Anh Tuan gave the responsibility of Artistic Director to Dinh Toan.

According to manager Huynh Anh Tuan, the reason Dinh Toan was chosen to replace artist Thanh Loc is because he is very versatile, able to perform, direct, review scripts, and coordinate professional work with artists.

Talking about this role and responsibility, the male artist shared with Thanh Nien newspaper: "I didn't have time to prepare anything, Mr. Loc left IDECAF, there was a lot of work piled up. But that's it, I will try to overcome this challenge, just hoping to contribute to the stage, to everyone to the best of my ability.

My feelings for Mr. Tuan and Mr. Loc have not been damaged at all, because I am their junior, and I hope to follow in their footsteps and do something for the stage."

Currently at the age of 50, Dinh Toan is still working hard in the arts. Looking at his recent pictures, the audience cannot believe that Dinh Toan has turned 50 because he still looks young, dynamic, and full of passion.

Dinh Toan has devoted himself to art for decades. His talent has been recognized with a number of awards such as: Silver Medal at the 2009 National Drama Festival; Best Actor at the 2010 Golden Kite; Best Actor at the 2014 Vietnam Film Festival in France; Gold Medal at the 2020 National Drama Festival on the Image of the Public Security Soldier.

Regarding his private life, Dinh Toan is very reserved, rarely interacting with colleagues and the media. He considers himself a boring, monotonous, and sometimes lonely person. He keeps his professional and personal concerns as a part of his life.

The male artist said that there are three things he never shows off on social media or in real life: luxury goods, personal life, and lovers. He believes that an artist needs to know when to stop to protect himself from the temptation of fame.

Thanks to that, he almost never gets caught up in the whirlwind of gossip, leisurely works and lives calmly, not caring about the surrounding rumors.

Currently, the male artist lives with his mother. He is not married and feels satisfied with his life without any responsibilities or family ties to anyone.

"I think each person only lives this one life, as long as they are happy, that's enough. As for me, I think I have no responsibility to get married and have children," Dinh Toan once shared on Vietnamnet.

Because he is not married, the male artist is rumored to be in a relationship with actor Quang Thao. The two have been inseparable for more than two decades, from art to daily life.

Before the rumor, both of them neither denied nor admitted it. However, Dinh Toan once shared on the program Artist's Life that he had a beautiful love, without having to struggle too much with reason.
