Comedian Bac Hai passed away due to a serious illness, left one last wish, Vu Linh's son promised to fulfill it

On the morning of August 13, the Vietnamese entertainment industry was shocked when Ms. Kim Tham - wife of artist Bac Hai - confirmed that her husband had breathed his last at 7:00 a.m., after a long battle with many serious illnesses.

He passed away at the age of 55, leaving behind endless grief for his family, colleagues and beloved audiences.

Ms. Tham's voice trembled over the phone as she said that that morning, he was still quite conscious and told her to go out and buy food. However, when she returned, she was shocked to see that her husband had left her forever. "He didn't have time to leave any will...", she choked out, sobs interrupting each sentence.

In recent years, Bac Hai's health has seriously declined. In 2022, he was hospitalized for cirrhosis and kidney failure. The disease became more and more severe, along with a spinal defect that left him in constant pain. Once, the male artist fell into a deep coma for 10 days.

At 55, he should still be able to contribute to art, but Bac Hai had to spend the last months of his life with a worn-out body and exhausted finances. A few months ago, his illness relapsed, but his family did not have enough money to take him to the hospital. He could only rely on traditional medicine from An Giang to survive.

Before he passed away, Bac Hai told his wife to call artist Binh Tinh – his close brother – to ask for help taking care of the mother and child. On his personal page, Binh Tinh wrote these emotional lines:

"Received a phone call with a heartbreaking cry from Ms. Tham: 'I'm gone, Ut... Before he left, he told me to find Ut and ask Ut to take care of him because mother and son are alone, poor, and don't know what to do.' Yes, rest in peace, my colleagues and I will take care of you with all the best."

The bad news spread quickly, leaving a huge void in the hearts of friends and colleagues. Artist Hong To shared a clip of her performance with Bac Hai, along with a tearful farewell: "The echoes are still here, but from now on, they will forever be just echoes. Rest in peace, little brother."

Another colleague could not believe the truth: "I do not believe this is true. Just a few days ago I came to see you perform. Now I hear that you have passed away and I still cannot believe it. Goodbye, brother. Rest in peace, you will no longer be in pain. My condolences to Kim Tham and her family."

Comedian Tung Linh also wrote in sorrow: "Artist Bac Hai's wife just called and cried, telling him that he had just taken his last breath. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Rest in peace, my charming comedian brother."

In addition, many artists such as Meritorious Artist Viet Anh, Meritorious Artist Cat Tuong, director Xuan Phuoc, MC Anh Quan, actor Le Nam... also sent their deepest condolences, expressing their heartache at the passing of their colleague.

Born in 1970, Bac Hai entered the profession in the early 1990s. With a tall and thin figure, a gentle face and humorous acting, he often took on the roles of second and third leads, supporting his co-stars. His name is associated with skits with Bao Chung, Hong To... Thanks to Hong To's introduction, Bac Hai entered the television comedy scene and gradually became a familiar face.

In 2005, the skit Thay soi het thoi – performed by him and Hong To in the show Gala Cuoi – was loved by the audience, contributing to bringing his name closer to the public. But when the comedy stage began to decline, his acting opportunities gradually decreased, and his career also stagnated.

To make ends meet, the couple opened a small business, but it failed and they lost all their capital. The whole family had to return to their hometown to reduce living expenses. When the illness struck, the economy was even more exhausted. Ms. Tham used to make a living by selling dried fish in Can Gio, but a year ago she had to quit to take care of her husband. His son, Bac Hien, was only in 6th grade when he had to drop out of school because the family was too poor.

The three of them lived in a cramped and frugal rented room in Nhon Trach, Dong Nai. During those days, in addition to family love, Bac Hai was also warmed by the hearts of colleagues and audiences. Many artists such as Viet Huong and Huynh Tien Khoa called for donations, receiving the support of Binh Tinh, Don Nguyen, Kim Dao, etc.

However, all those efforts still could not keep him. Bac Hai passed away without saying goodbye, leaving behind his hard-working wife and young child. His departure was not only a loss for his family, but also a pain for the entire comedy stage - the place that once marked the laughter he brought.
