Ho Chi Minh City warns of seasonal flu with nearly 2,900 cases in 2024. The Department of Health requires people to wear masks at medical facilities and comply with preventive measures. Seasonal flu is also on the rise in many countries, especially in Japan.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has announced a recent increase in seasonal flu cases in the city. According to information from this agency, in 2024, medical facilities recorded more than 2,900 flu cases, including 11 severe cases, but there have been no unfortunate cases. However, the city's health system is still closely monitoring and treating flu patients.
Recently, hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City also said that they are currently treating 20 inpatients with influenza. The Department of Health has confirmed that there have been no unusual situations in the reception and treatment of influenza patients. However, in the face of an increase in cases, especially during the flu season, authorities have decided to require medical facilities to strengthen epidemic prevention measures.
At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health strongly recommends that people wear masks when visiting medical facilities. Masks will help prevent the spread of seasonal flu viruses and other infectious diseases, ensuring safety for yourself and the community.
Along with wearing masks, the Department of Health also directed hospitals and medical facilities in the area to strictly implement disease prevention procedures. This includes monitoring for influenza cases and suspected severe viral pneumonia (SVP) symptoms, and promptly reporting any emergency situations, ensuring timely response to disease outbreaks.
Seasonal flu, although not a new disease, can cause many serious consequences, especially for people with weak immune systems such as the elderly, children, pregnant women or people with underlying medical conditions. Influenza can cause serious symptoms such as high fever, cough, fatigue, muscle pain, and can even lead to complications such as pneumonia, respiratory failure, especially in dangerous cases of influenza A(H1N1) or A(H3N2).
In the world, seasonal flu is developing complicatedly in many countries. Japan is one of the countries that has recorded a spike in seasonal flu cases in recent months. In the last week of 2024 alone, Japan recorded more than 317,000 cases of flu. In Vietnam, although the situation has not reached an alarming level, medical facilities are still closely monitoring the situation and are ready to respond to the epidemic.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health also recommends that people should not panic, but also not be subjective. Health protection measures are still the top priority. In addition to wearing masks, maintaining personal hygiene measures and keeping distance when in contact with people with flu symptoms are also very important in minimizing the risk of infection.
Regarding the seasonal flu situation, on February 10, a representative of the Drug Administration of Vietnam, Ministry of Health said that Tamiflu (containing the active ingredient Oseltamivir) is still fully and stably supplied. Despite the sudden increase in flu cases during the Lunar New Year, the supply of Tamiflu is still guaranteed.
In particular, the Drug Administration also recommends that people should not buy Tamiflu on their own to stockpile, as the use of this drug must be prescribed by a doctor. Tamiflu is only really effective in the first 48 hours after catching the flu and not all cases require the drug. Medical experts emphasize that only patients with severe flu or those at risk of worsening should be treated with Tamiflu.
The seasonal flu epidemic in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring areas is complicated, especially in the context that hospitals are facing a number of serious cases. People need to proactively prevent and implement effective disease prevention measures. At the same time, the use of Tamiflu also needs to be prescribed by a doctor to avoid unnecessary risks.
