In the middle of a Dak Lak village, a 12-year-old girl suddenly became the center of attention thanks to her rare, different appearance, making it difficult for anyone who accidentally saw her to take their eyes off her.

Recently, the online community has paid special attention to the image of a 12-year-old girl in Dak Lak with unusual eyes: one is as black as basalt soil, the other is as blue as the sky and the stream. That is Pham Yen Dan, a 5C student at Pham Hong Thai Primary School, Dray Bhang Commune. Not only does Yen Dan stand out for her rare, strange eyes, she is also a story about the determination and dreams of a child born in special circumstances.

Yen Dan is the child of Tong Thanh Hung (33 years old) and Pham Thi Kim Yen (38 years old), both of whom were born deaf and mute. Contrary to her parents' disabilities, since birth, Dan has been healthy, speaks normally and studies well. The special thing that makes her different is her eyes of two opposite colors, both strange and attractive.

The first person to discover this was Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thao - an art teacher. In a class three years ago, she noticed that Dan's face had many different features, especially her eyes. Since then, whenever she had the chance, Ms. Thao took pictures of her student and shared them online. The photos quickly spread, attracting the attention of the community, and many photographers even came to capture the moment of the girl with strange eyes.

Other teachers in the school were also surprised. Head teacher Phan Anh Duong thought Dan had an eye problem, but after testing, his vision was completely normal. A teacher with many years of experience also admitted that he had never seen a student with such a special look.

Dan's eyes are not unfamiliar to her family, because love and care are what they care about. Due to limited economic conditions, her parents had to work far away for many years, and Dan lived with her grandparents. After the Covid-19 pandemic, her mother was able to stay home regularly to take care of her child.

Understanding her situation, teachers and friends always care for and encourage her more. In the new school year, Dan received bicycles, books, and school supplies from benefactors to encourage her spirit. In class, friends also always protect her from teasing, helping Dan confidently integrate.

Although quiet, Dan’s eyes light up every time she picks up a brush to draw. Painting is not only a passion for her, but also a way to silently communicate with her parents – who cannot hear her. Since second grade, Dan has shown to be skillful and meticulous, always passionate about each painting.

Teacher Thao shared: "When assigning a topic, Dan often tries to complete it to the end, even staying in class to finish drawing. For him, each painting is like a story in colors." Dan's landscape paintings are familiar, while his character paintings are full of cartoonish qualities, expressing the imaginative world of childhood.

Not only for personal joy, Dan also participated in many drawing competitions organized by the school and locality. Although she did not win high prizes, her efforts became a source of inspiration for her friends. After school, she still diligently helped her grandparents with housework, and was loved by teachers and neighbors. Not only talented in painting, Yen Dan was also a good student, achieving good results in many subjects.
