The teaser of Squid Game 2 has recently been announced, attracting great attention from the media and global audiences. The trailer video gives a glimpse of the cast in the sequel to Netflix's No. 1 hit series.
In addition to familiar names in season 1 such as Lee Jung Jae, Wi Ha Joon, Lee Byung Hun, some new faces appear in the teaser such as TOP (Big Bang), Jo Yuri, Lim Si Wan,...
The most controversial person in the new cast is Song Young Chang. He was born in 1958 and is a veteran actor of the Korean film industry. He is known for supporting roles in many films such as First Love (1993), Chase (2013), Secret Files (2015), Bluebeard (2017)...
What made the audience object to him appearing in Squid Game 2 was his criminal past.
In the clip that has just been announced, there is the presence of the character Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae). Gi-hun is the winner from the first season and in season 2, he rejoins the game as participant number 456 and urgently begs everyone to leave the game immediately.
In the midst of the chaos, the rules of the game read aloud: "You can choose to stay and continue playing to increase your chances of winning, or choose to stop the game now and leave. The decision is entirely up to you." While Gi-hun made his call, another participant responded, "Who do you think you are? Do you work for these people?"
Gi-hun, getting more and more desperate, went on to warn: "I've played these games before! If you don't stop, they will kill us all!"
However, despite Gi-hun's warning, the others in the crowd began chanting: "One more game!"
The first season of "Squid Game" has become a global phenomenon, recording the highest number of hours viewed in Netflix history. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk won an Emmy Award for his role as a film director, and actor Lee Jung-jae received an Emmy Award for Best Actor.
In the second season, Gi-hun, despite winning the game, chooses not to go to the United States and instead returns with a new purpose.
Season 2 features the members of the first season along with new members, including actors Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Lee Jin-uk, and Choi Seung-hyun. The second part is scheduled to be released on December 26 and the third part is scheduled to be released next year.
Previously, in June, American media reported that writer and director David Fincher - who was behind legendary films such as "Fight Club" and "Gone Girl" along with the TV series "House of Cards" and "Mind Hunter" - is developing an English-language remake of the hit TV series "Squid Game". This news immediately surprised fans of the original "Squid Game" as well as netizens.
This unexpected reaction is said to be because "Squid Game" season 2 has not even been released, so making the American version seems too hasty and unreasonable. Many netizens have shared their opinions on the Korean forum "theqoo", accordingly, the majority of comments said that the age of "Squid Game" is less than 10 years old and the second part of the movie is about to be released, the decision to remake another version is very bad.
According to some sources, David Fincheris is still working on the American version of "Squid Game". There aren't many details about the production process yet, but with Fincher's contract extension with the streaming giant, there's no limit to what they can do together in the future. However, fans hope that instead of remaking "Squid Game," Fincher and Netflix should go ahead with "Mindhunter," a remake of the popular South Korean TV show.
