After a period of silence, recently there was another person claiming to have worked with BIG HIT to support BTS on the music charts, causing netizens to be excited about the authenticity of the incident.
Recently, a person claiming to be a former employee of a company related to "Sajaegi" (a term for illegal manipulation of music charts) accuse.d BIG HIT MUSIC of using their services to market the popular bo.y band BTS in 2015. Accordingly, this person affirmed that they have evidence of this and posted it on popular Korean social networking platforms. The evidence this person provided includes emails, calls, and posts that they had previously contacted BIG HIT MUSIC. Although there is no basis to verify the above evidence as true, this news has caused a stir in the Korean online community.
Previously in 2017, a recording of a conversation between a BIG HIT representative and a person who specializes in "chart manipulation" services was made public. BIG HIT immediately denied it, and fans of the idol group BTS were also skeptical about this information. Until now, the recording is still appearing on social media and has not been deleted by CEO Lee, which can be considered evidence. This whistleblower also said that he has a lot of evidence directly pointing to BIG HIT CEO Lee, and he is still worried about many legal issues so he has not released it yet. Currently, this person has also contacted media agencies to soon release evidence related to BIG HIT and BTS manipulating music charts.
Back in September, when BTS first got into the Billboard Ho.t 100 manipulation scandal, BTS firmly denied unfair competition. Member RM said frankly: "It's a fair question. However, if Billboard is arguing internally about which song should be the chart's champion, they have the right to change the rules to increase the online listening score."
The reason why netizens suspect chart manipulation is because BTS releases multiple versions of a song, and the group's fans "take advantage of loopholes" to improve their idols' achievements in many ways, such as spending mone.y to boost sales. Singer RM continued to share: "Is it right to say that we are leading thanks to sales and downloads? It feels like BTS is becoming a target of scrutiny because we are a bo.y group, a K-pop artist, and have an extremely enthusiastic fan community." Agreeing with member RM's answer, Big Hit Music's management company President Shin Young Jae also denied rumors that BTS cheated and believed that the group's songs had created a certain influence. "We have received a complaint about chart manipulation related to BTS, after checking with the Korea Creative Content Agency, we will begin an investigation," said an official from the Ministry.
Mr. A, the person who filed the lawsuit, wrote: "The court's ruling in January 2017 was completely opposite to Big Hit's point of view. The court ruled that the blackmailer used chart manipulation t.o threate.n the company, but at the same time, it also acknowledged that Big Hit was involved in illegal promotion and chart manipulation." In addition, Mr. A also requested a re-investigation of the "Album of the Year" awar.d that BTS won at the 2016 Melon Music Awards. According to him, BTS's albums continuously ranked lower than EXO's albums. On the Gaon Chart, BTS's albums were only half of EXO's. EXO even surpassed BTS quite far in the voting round, but in the end, BTS won the awar.d.
At that time, when being accuse.d, Big Hit Music, BTS's management company, also issued an official statement denying all recent accusations including: chart manipulation, plagiarism and being related to the Dahn World cult. The company said that the false rumors had gone too far, so they had to seek legal intervention to resolve this issue once and for all. "We sincerely apologize to BTS fans for the difficulties you have encountered recently. We are committed to taking all necessary actions to protect the rights of the artists," Big Hit announced.
