Male singer Tuan Canh - biological father of "baby Xuan Mai" - was a familiar face in lyrical and folk music in the 1990s.

He studied at the School of Culture and Arts and was active on many large and small stages across the two regions.

When Xuan Mai started to become famous with familiar children's songs, it was he who guided and supported his daughter in her first steps into music.

After his marriage with Xuan Mai’s mother broke up, he married his second wife and was sponsored to immigrate to the US. In his first years in a foreign land, Tuan Canh worked many jobs to stabilize his life, including working as a nail technician in Hawaii. Later, his family moved to California, where he opened a Northern pho restaurant and spent most of his time in the food business instead of singing as before.

Recently, in a conversation with artist Thuy Nga, Tuan Canh suddenly announced that he had transferred the pho restaurant. He humorously shared: "I've been in good shape lately, no longer struggling, no longer having to stand and chop chicken like usual." He also joked that he was now "unemployed" and wanted to apply to be a delivery person for Thuy Nga. This statement was completely humorous because, according to him, the transfer of the pho restaurant was not because of losses or difficulties, but because the restaurant was too crowded, he felt tired and could not manage everything himself. Tuan Canh also made it clear that he wanted to have more time to rest after a long time of personally managing the restaurant.

Regarding the reason for choosing the pho business when coming to America, Tuan Canh once said: "I started the pho business because when I came to America, I didn't have any other job. Since I was little, I helped my parents cook pho." He admitted that opening a restaurant was quite hard, but it also helped him have a stable life in America for many years.

Although they have not lived together since Xuan Mai was a child, the relationship between father and daughter remains good. Tuan Canh said that he and Xuan Mai often video call to chat on weekends. During holidays, Xuan Mai still brings her children to visit their father according to family tradition. For her part, Xuan Mai once expressed that she always respects her parents' decision and loves them both despite many changes in life. She also spoke well of her father's second wife, saying that everyone still maintains a harmonious relationship.

In addition to Xuan Mai, Tuan Canh also has a son with his current wife. However, he rarely shares in-depth about his private life, only saying that his family in the US is still stable and supports each other in work and life. What he cares about most is maintaining the warmth in the family because, according to him, this is the most precious thing after many years away from home.

When talking about the future, Tuan Canh said he hopes to return to Vietnam to live when he is old. He confided that life in his homeland is still more comfortable and dreams of having a small house and opening a breakfast shop to have fun with friends. Although he used to be a famous singer, he said that if he sang again, it would only be for fun, not focusing on returning to the big stage like before.

At the age of over 50, Tuan Canh's journey from stage artist to food businessman, then taking a break after transferring his pho restaurant, shows a life with many changes but still maintaining an optimistic spirit.
