Cai luong artist Dieu Hien suddenly became the center of public attention when she made statements related to Hong Loan - daughter of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh.
In a shared post, she said that Hong Loan "kicked Hong Phuong and Tieu Linh out of the house", causing a stir among the public and dividing them into many opposing opinions.
Meanwhile, the relationship between Dieu Hien and Vu Linh - once one of the most respected teacher-student relationships in the reformed theater - was mentioned many times.
Accordingly, in 2006, the public in the theater world was moved when they learned that Vu Linh had a beautiful act: buying a plot of land more than 60 square meters wide in Thu Duc, costing about 40 taels of gold, to build a house for Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien - the teacher and sister who guided him from the early days of his career.
In the article, Vu Linh shared: "When I was 14 years old, my mother let me follow Ms. Hien to learn singing. Almost every time she sang in a troupe, she took me along to get acquainted with the profession and receive her dedicated guidance. I am very happy to have saved some money from my acting career to fulfill this wish, because for many years Ms. Hien and her children lived in poverty in a small apartment on the 2nd floor of the Tran Huu Trang Theater (Tan Khai Street, District 11 - Ho Chi Minh City). Every night she still had to sing at bars to earn money to support her family."
Vu Linh's affection for his teacher was clearly shown through his actions and words. For him, Dieu Hien was not only an art instructor, but also a spiritual support in the early years of his career. However, Dieu Hien's life later encountered many difficulties, forcing her to sell the land that Vu Linh had bought for her.
However, until now, after nearly 20 years, artist Dieu Hien still has no home, still lives alone in a nursing home, making everyone curious. In a recent sharing, Dieu Hien herself recounted:
"Not everyone has a younger brother or friend like me. The other group gave each person a piece of land for that amount. The one Vu Linh bought for me, he paid them 40 million. Instead of paying 20 million each time, they asked for another 40 million. He also paid 40 million. Then he asked for another 40 million. So I didn't tell him. Because at first he said it was only 40 million, but now it's gone up to hundreds of millions... He said I'm afraid, if people go up, our land will be more valuable in the future. He also paid in. That piece of land was worth about 120 million. At that time, our reformed opera was on the decline, so I gave up. So I couldn't build a house on that piece of land. I held it slowly to take care of my mother's illness and take care of this, that, and that in the house... So the truth is I couldn't even build a house."
The incident once again shows the deep affection between generations of cai luong artists - where seniors are always respected by juniors, and teachers still have love for their students despite going through many events.
Meritorious Artist Vu Linh passed away in 2023 after many years of fighting a serious illness. In addition to cancer, the king of Ho Quang of the Cai Luong stage suffered from many underlying diseases such as intestinal and spinal diseases, and did not sing often. Vu Linh has been away from the stage for many years. He only accepted performance invitations from a few familiar artists.
Artist Dieu Hien was upset because Vu Linh's younger brother was kicked out of the house, teaching Hong Loan
