Both are two rookie girl groups, YG's BabyMonster and HYPE's Belift Lab's ILLIT, so it is inevitable that Kpop fans will compare and scrutinize each other. This affair even came from a long time ago.
In episode 3 of ILLIT's Vlog aired on May 29, HYBE's parent company Belift Lab revealed "domestic chicken" moments backstage at the music show M! Countdown. However, what caught viewers' attention the most was the moment when BABYMONSTER â the group also present at this show practiced their voices and echoed to ILLIT's waiting room. Although it was only a few seconds, this moment immediately became a topic that made the online community "dissect".
Underneath the clip, many comments disputed the fact that BABYMONSTER is a group that is considered competent but hardworking, taking advantage of vocal practice while applying makeup in the waiting room. Meanwhile, ILLIT â a group that is causing a lot of controversy for their live vocals and plagiarism but is busy taking photos and "creating content" behind the scenes.
Follow BABYMONSTER's Vlog behind the scenes of M! Countdown, it can be clearly seen that not only 1 member but many members such as Rami, Asa, Ahyeon, Rora all take advantage of singing practice and practice before stepping on stage. This has made a clear difference, making the online community compare the real talent as well as the progress of the two rookie groups HYBE and YG.
ILLIT - a group with 5 members coming out of the survival show Are You Next quickly became a "dinosaur rookie" when marked by a series of remarkable achievements. However, in just about 2 months, from a phenomenal group that is considered a serious competitor with many girl groups debuting at the same time, ILLIT is becoming the center of controversy when criticized for their live vocals and noisy plagiarism.
In contrast, BABYMONSTER after debuting with a 7-member lineup made netizens divide many conflicting opinions. Many people commented that the group's songs are outdated, old, and the MV learned from BLACKPINK seniors.
However, after being promoted by YG on live stages, BABYMONSTER won the hearts of the audience because of their talent from vocals to choreography. Thanks to this factor, the group's title track SHEESH excellently "bounced back" and reached the Top 10 of the MelON chart.
Although ILLIT was previously rated higher for its digital music achievements, until now, HYBE's rookie has encountered many scandals and is constantly put on the scale comparing the ability to sing live with BABYMONSTER.
BabyMonster and IlLLIT are also considered a direct competition between Korea's two largest entertainment companies, namely HYBE and YG Entertainment. Not stopping there, both groups were personally trained by the head of the company, Bang Si Hyuk and Yang Hyun Sik, turning this fight into a clash of K-Pop giants.
ILLIT's debut album Super Real Me set a new record when it sold 380,000 copies in its first week of release last month. However, this record was quickly broken by YG rookies as the group sold over 401,000 copies in just one week. With constant competition like now, the audience is curious about who will hold the title of the top 5th generation girl group in K-Pop in the future.
While BABYMONSTER dominates in terms of album sales and YouTube views, the 5 new members of the HYBE family make a significant impact on the Korean music charts. Their debut track Magnetic topped The Show and Melon's daily chart, indicating the group's strong popularity in the Korean market. In contrast, YG's songs did not perform well on these charts.
