Two rookie girl groups, BabyMonster and ILLIT, are two names that are stirring up the Kpop market, setting a series of new records. Because of this competition, fans on both sides cannot avoid controversy, music experts have to get involved.
The fierce race between K-pop girl groups has just "heated up" with the impressive debuts of ILLIT and BabyMonster. Both rookies broke previous records for debut album sales. ILLIT opened with "Super Real Me," which sold 380,000 copies in the first week after its release last month. However, this record was quickly surpassed by Babymonster. The group's album of the same name sold 401,000 copies in just seven days, surpassing NewJeans' record of 311,000 copies two years ago.
This "war" doesn't just stop at sales, this is also a direct competition between Korea's two leading entertainment companies - HYBE backing ILLIT and YG Entertainment behind Babymonster. In addition, each group was personally produced by the leader of the production company, HYBE's Bang Si-hyuk and YG's Yang Hyun-suk, respectively, turning this competition into a "fierce" encounter of K-pop giants.
Although BabyMonster dominates album sales and YouTube views, ILLIT has made a significant mark on Korean music charts. Their debut song "Magnetic" topped the charts on SBS MTV's "The Show" and Melon's daily charts, showing strong domestic appeal. In contrast, Babymonster's songs have not achieved the same success on the domestic charts, although their YouTube appeal remains solid.
For Korean music experts, they do not care about the achievements of the two groups but only care about the quality of their debut album. And the truth is that both albums from two K-Pop girl groups received a rather lukewarm response from experts.
Music critic Lim Hee Yoon commented: "Both HYBE and YG are companies that represent K-Pop but are somewhat disappointing." Meanwhile, Kim Do Heon praised ILLIT's music but still pointed out that both groups' albums did not meet expectations.
ILLIT and Babymonster are often compared to their seniors in the same company, NewJeans and Blackpink, respectively. Lim Hee Yoon noted, "ILLIT seems to be targeting a pre-teen and early-teen audience, continuing the concept of NewJeans." On the other hand, Jeong Min-jae said: "ILLIT has significant differences from NewJeans in terms of song details and development, their music incorporates more elements of popular pop music".
At the present time, both are being compared to senior groups in the same company, such as ILLIT being compared to NewJeans and BABYMONSTER being compared to BLACKPINK. Up to this point, both groups still have the company's identity, but with HYBE, they are actively developing their new group while the "little sister group BLACKPINK" is still being trained by YG. "overly conservative" way.
Predicting success, experts say that YG's group may be famous internationally, but ILLIT is more recognized in Korea because it knows how to grasp youth trends.
In general, the two new generation girl groups are receiving special attention from the K-Pop industry. However, at the present time, it is still impossible to predict which group will win the hearts of the audience in the future.
BABYMONSTER has a relationship with ILLIT, accidentally letting HYPE "domestic chickens" eat shattered bricks Thanh Phúc09:34:38 02/06/2024Both are two rookie girl groups, YG's BabyMonster and HYPE's Belift Lab's ILLIT, so it is inevitable that Kpop fans will compare and scrutinize each other. This affair even came from a long time ago.
