Recently, the people of Phuc Khanh commune and the functional forces of Bao Yen district (Lao Cai province) have begun moving furniture and installing the last equipment and supplies to welcome 25 households of Lang Nu village back this afternoon.
Information from Lao Cai province, this afternoon, September 21, the People's Committee of Bao Yen district and functional forces of Lao Cai province began welcoming people from Lang Nu village to the new temporary housing area, after exactly one week of hard work.
More than 10 days ago, these households had to face a terrible flash flood that swept away their homes and their relatives and neighbors. Their homes were devastated, their property was gone, and many families were left homeless. The early construction of temporary housing and resettlement villages for the people of Lang Nu is considered an urgent task, receiving the attention and direction of the Prime Minister.
Since the morning of September 21, the authorities and people of Phuc Khanh commune (Bao Yen district) have urgently transported belongings to the temporary shelter, divided into cleaning teams, and installed equipment such as electrical wires, gas stoves, and beds to welcome households from Lang Nu returning after the flood.
This is a temporary housing area built on the old cultural house of Lang Nu village, with an area of 2,500m². Accordingly, each family will be arranged a temporary housing area of 36m². This is to ensure the safety of households that have lost their homes and those in areas with high risk of landslides.
According to Mr. Tran Trong Thong, Chairman of Bao Yen District People's Committee, the preparation process for this new temporary housing area has been implemented since September 15. In recent days, construction units have focused on human resources, machinery and materials, working day and night to complete the temporary housing area ahead of schedule.
In parallel with the completion of the temporary housing area, Lao Cai province is also urgently constructing a new and safer resettlement area for the people of Lang Nu. The land has been basically cleared, and people are clearing trees and crops to prepare for house construction.
The permanent resettlement area was chosen at a location about 2km from the old village, on the sim hill area. This is a spacious, safe land, located on high ground, convenient for building traffic infrastructure and supplying electricity and water.
According to the plan, the new resettlement area will have an initial area of 10 hectares, with 1,000 square meters allocated to each household. The houses will be built in the traditional Tay stilt house architecture, with a two-story design and an area of 8x12 meters.
In addition, the resettlement area will have a cultural house, a school, and auxiliary facilities such as kitchens, toilets, and a synchronous infrastructure system (roads, electricity, water). This project is required to be completed before December 31, 2024.
Chairman of Bao Yen District People's Committee, Mr. Tran Trong Thong, said that the government has made every effort to ensure that the people of Lang Nu quickly have a new, safe and stable place to live. The overall planning, traffic reinforcement, and transportation of materials and human resources have been carried out urgently and synchronously.
Regarding the above plans of Bao Yen district authorities, local people expressed their high consensus and wished to soon have a resettlement area to stabilize their lives. At the same time, some people suggested considering resettlement support for families who were not affected by the flash flood, but whose old houses are at risk of being unsafe.
Meanwhile, according to the reporter in Lang Nu village, although it was a weekend and the weather was hot, hundreds of military and police officers and soldiers, along with many machines and equipment, continued to search for the missing people. Up to now, after nearly a week of searching, the authorities have found and confirmed 51 people who have passed away, 33 people are still missing, 57 people are safe and 17 people are being treated in the hospital.
