Of the total 451 artists who were awarded the title of People's Artist through 10 nominations (from 1984 to 2024), People's Artist Y Moan was the only case to be awarded a special title, before he died 2 months ago of stomach cancer.
Y Moan's dossier of request for consideration and awarding of the title of People's Artist was unanimously approved by the Council for consideration and awarding of the title of People's Artist and People's Artist for the 7th time at all grassroots levels with an absolute number of votes.
According to Circular 06/2010/TT-BVHTTDL at that time, detailed regulations on standards, processes and procedures for dossiers for consideration and conferment of the title of People's Artist and People's Artist have just been issued, it will not take effect until August 30. And the consideration and awarding of the title of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist is carried out every 2 years, on the occasion of 2/9. With this regulation, the 7th round of consideration for the award of the title will be carried out in 2011.
However, the President signed a special decision to confer the title of People's Artist to Y Moan. And in the live show "Plateau Fire" of Y Moan which took place on August 6, 2010 at Au Co Theater (Hanoi), the Ministry of Culture, Culture and Tourism authorized by the President awarded the title of People's Artist to Y Moan right at this event.
This is something that has never happened in the history of conferring the title of artist. Also in the first and only concert in this career of Y Moan, the Vietnam Musicians Association awarded him a Medal for his music career
At that time, despite being pregnant with terminal stomach cancer, Y Moan still went on stage to sing. The singing was sung from the heart and from the last bit of strength of that artist, which made many people shed tears of emotion and admiration.
After 2 months of receiving the title of People's Artist, Y Moan breathed his last at his home in Buon DhÄ Prong, Buon Me Thuot, Dak Lak, at the age of 53.
Throughout Y Moan's life, he has had more than 35 years of dedication to his singing career, like a silkworm that works hard to release until the last day of his life.
Illustrious career, being the only People's Artist of the Ede people
Y Moan's full name is Y Moan Eñuôl, real name is Y Bliêo, born in 1957 in M'Drak village, in an Ede ethnic family. At the age of 18, he was recruited into the Dak Lak Liberation Troupe and quickly became the lead singer of the troupe.
In 1979, while studying Vocal Music at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now the National Academy of Music), he was discovered by musician Nguyen Cuong and fostered a lot of practical knowledge about music. After that, Y Moan continued to train in Bulgaria, Germany, Russia, Hungary, Romania...
In 1981, the Department of Culture and Information of Dak Lak invited musician Nguyen Cuong to Dak Lak to compose songs for the province and this was also considered a big turning point in bringing Y Moan's career to the peak.
Y Moan's name is affirmed from here, not only within the community of Central Highlands villages but also bringing the Central Highlands to the public in Vietnam and some countries around the world.
He succeeded with musicians composing in the Central Highlands style such as: Tran Tien, Nguyen Cuong, Y Phon Ksor, Manh Tri, Linh Nga, Duc Hung, Quang Dung, Vu Lan, Si Hung...
Nguyen Cuong's songs were performed very successfully by Y Moan such as: Oi M'Drak, Cups of Ban Me coffee, I want to live with you for the rest of my life...
Not only singing, he also composed many songs about the Central Highlands, such as: Song of the homeland, Going out with the wind. Y Moan has performed in many countries such as China, North Korea, Korea, Thailand, Poland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, France...
Y Moan has been attached and loved the Central Highlands land all his life, refusing to leave this land. Until the last day of his breath, he still lived with his family in a house in a village in the Central Highlands while singing and making coffee.
Many people still wonder why Y Moan didn't move to the city, but he loves life in the highlands and has never regretted his choice.

With his contributions to the country's art, he was awarded the title of People's Artist in 1997 and People's Artist in 2010 by the State.
Y Moan got married in 1979, his wife of Northern descent, Nguyen Thi Minh Ngau, worked with an art troupe. Grandparents have two sons and a daughter together.
Y Vol Enuôl (born 1980) is the first son, Y Garia Enuôl (born 1983) is the second son and H'Dresden Enuôl (born 1992) is the youngest daughter. In particular, his two sons have been continuing his artistic path.
