Because the flood water rose quickly and the roads were cut off, an old man in Quang Binh died suddenly and could not be buried. The family had to find a way to raise the coffin to avoid the flood water, making everyone feel heartbroken.
Due to the impact of storm No. 6 (Tra Mi), people in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province are suffering from historic floods, with water levels rising much higher than the warning level. Although the rain has decreased, the water level on Kien Giang river is still above warning level 3, causing the entire central area of the district to be submerged in water.
That is why the lives of the people here are in a difficult situation. The most obvious example is a family in Kien Giang Town (Le Thuy, Quang Binh) whose family member died but could not hold a funeral or burial. The images in the clip show that the flood water rose to the height of a person's body.
The family had to put up scaffolding to place the coffin to prevent water from seeping in. Meanwhile, the old manâs wife placed a wooden board high up on the roof. The house was quite empty, with no valuable furniture, and many wardrobes had been submerged in the floodwaters.
Seeing someone coming to visit, the old woman sat high up to avoid the flood and could not stay by her husband's coffin. She said: "He fell asleep and died early in the morning. He died at 3:30 am." Below, the daughter had to wade around to check the rising water level, fearing that her father's altar would be swept away.
The family's difficult circumstances as well as the dire situation when a relative passed away during the flood season made many people feel sorry. "So pitiful, the floodwaters surrounded all sides and submerged many properties. It was already miserable, but when someone died, it was a hundred times more miserable. My condolences to the family, hoping everyone will soon overcome the pain," shared account DL.
"So sad. Even if you want to go to the funeral, you can't. What can you do when the water is as high as a person? My condolences to the family," another person expressed.
Also in Le Thuy district, while helping people in flooded areas evacuate due to the impact of storm No. 6 on October 27, Mr. Le Ngoc H. (born 2002), in Thanh Son village, Thai Thuy commune - a local youth volunteer was swept away by the water and went missing.
After many hours of searching, at around 7:15 a.m. on October 28, the authorities discovered Mr. H. about 200 meters from the accident site and there were no signs of life. Immediately afterwards, H.'s body was returned to his family. At the moment the young man returned, relatives and neighbors could not help but choke up and burst into tears.
Now, the white-haired man must send off the green-haired man, the young man leaves behind many dreams and ambitions that are still unfinished at the age of 22. The day he returns to his family's arms is also the day he leaves them forever. Floods not only submerge houses and crops but also cause many families to lose loved ones. Each storm that sweeps through brings devastation, destruction, flooding, damage, loss, separation, and added burdens...
According to statistics, as of the afternoon of October 28, some areas in Quang Binh are still experiencing heavy rain, with incessant rain. Preliminary statistics show that as of 3 p.m. today, more than 20,000 houses in Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts have been deeply flooded, paralyzing many areas and submerging many villages. The most serious are the low-lying areas along the Kien Giang River, such as: Kien Giang Town, An Thuy, Loc Thuy, Cam Thuy.... almost 90% of houses are still heavily flooded, some houses are flooded more than 1.5m deep.
Main roads are cut off, houses are flooded, many households have to evacuate or live in poor conditions.
