After Bab.y Three, it's the turn of a milk tea brand from China, about to launch in Vietnam, to be caught up in suspicions of being linked to the "cow tongue line". People are calling for a "boycott" of this brand.
Accordingly, Chagee milk tea, which is about to launch, has faced a wave of fierce opposition when it was suspected of using the image of a "broken line" similar to the illegal "cow tongue line" on the application. This issue quickly attracted public attention, because it is directly related to national sovereignty.
In the face of a fierce "boycott" from the public, on March 15, a representative of the People's Committee of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City said that they had received information related to the Chagee milk tea brand and requested the People's Committee of Ben Nghe Ward to verify and report the incident.
While the story was still unresolved, a milk tea brand called Chacee was caught up in the scanda.l when some people mistakenly confused this brand with Chagee, so they poured their anger into articles on Chacee's homepage, forcing them to speak up and make a correction.
Unjustly accuse.d, the brand representative posted a post confirming that Chacee is not Chagee. At the same time, he committed to bringing good products to customers in Vietnam. "Please take note to avoid confusion. We appreciate everyone's support and always accompany Vietnam" - Chacee shared on the official Facebook page on March 15.
Ms. Truc Quynh, living in Binh Thanh District (HCMC) said that when she saw the posts on Chacee's page being attacked, she checked again and luckily it was not due to a mistake like Chagee's but due to a mistake. "I often come to enjoy Chacee's drinks in Binh Thanh District. If there are inappropriate images, I will not use this brand anymore" - Ms. Quynh said.
Back to Chagee, this is a high-end milk tea chain founded in 2017 in Shanghai (China). This brand currently has more than 5,000 stores across East Asia. The first store in Vietnam is expected to be located at the corner of Nguyen Thiep - Dong Khoi (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) and is in the process of completion. The official opening date of this store has not been announced by the company.
After a backlash from the online community over suspicions of using sensitive images, Chagee's app was removed from the Vietnamese market on Play Store and AppStore. When accessing the platform, a message appears: "The app is currently not available in your area."
However, users can still download the app by switching regions. Chagee's website also contains a map with the illegal nine-dash line. As of now, the brand has not made any official response to the incident.
Previously, domestic consumers also called for a "boycott" of Bab.y Three toys because of reports that images similar to the "cow tongue line" appeared on the "Town Rabbit version 2" version. After that, authorities stepped in to investigate.
According to Mr. Tran Huu Linh, Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade), any product sold and distributed on the market that has the "cow tongue line" printed on it is determined to be a violation of the law, due to its impact on Vietnam's national security and territorial sovereignty.
In the document sent to the market management departments of provinces and cities, it was stated that recently, the mass media has reported that a number of children's toy products such as Bab.y Three with images similar to the "cow tongue line" are being sold in traditional forms and on e-commerce platforms Shopee, TikTokShop, and social networks Facebook.
Therefore, the Department recommends that local market management departments strengthen coordination with e-commerce platforms, grasp the situation in the area, proactively deploy professional measures, organize inspections, and strictly handle violations, if any, against organizations and individuals according to regulations.
