Chagee Milk Tea Shows "Cow Tongue Line" on App, Vietnamese People Boycott En masse

Recently, many people have spread images of the Chagee application login screen with a map containing China's illegal 'nine-dash line'.

Many Vietnamese users expressed outrage, protest, and boycott the milk tea chain that is about to open in Vietnam.

Specifically, since the evening of March 14, 2025, social networking sites have continuously posted articles calling for a boycott of the Chagee milk tea brand. The reason comes from the fact that the mobile application of this milk tea brand displays a map with an image similar to the "cow tongue line."

A social media account shared that she downloaded the app from the App Store with the intention of receiving free milk tea when it opens in Ho Chi Minh City. But when she opened the app, she saw a map of Vietnam with dashed lines similar to the "cow tongue line", which made her extremely confused. Immediately, a wave of criticism broke out on social media platforms, especially the official fanpage of Chagee Vietnam. A series of comments expressed anger, calling for a boycott of this brand if there was no satisfactory explanation.

In fact, the link to download the Chagee app shared on the official fanpage of the Chagee Vietnam chain on March 7 is still pinned to the top of the page. Users are introduced to the promotion program to download the app. However, the attached link is currently inaccessible.

In response to public backlash, Chagee Vietnam has removed the app containing images similar to the "cow tongue line" from the Google Play Store and Vietnam's App Store. When users access it, the platforms display a message saying "The app is currently unavailable in your area."

However, with some roaming tricks, using APK files, it is still possible to install the APAC region version of the Chagee app on your phone.

It is noted that the images of the "cow tongue line" on the Chagee application login screen are real. This software is also available for users in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

In addition, the website of Chagee Vietnam, which is listed on the official fanpage, also contains a map with the illegal 9-dash line. Not only on social networks, this incident also attracted the attention of many milk tea lovers, especially those who had been waiting for the appearance of Chagee in Vietnam. Some netizens said that Chagee should quickly give an official response, while others affirmed that they would not support this brand if the above information was correct.

Currently, Chagee has not yet given any response to this issue. Meanwhile, the boycott wave is still spreading on social networking platforms, showing the determination of Vietnamese netizens when facing issues related to the "cow tongue line". On Chagee's Facebook page, the amount of anger as well as comments below the post increased dramatically, accounting for the majority. Many users reacted strongly, demanding a boycott of the milk tea chain even though it has not opened any stores in Vietnam.

According to the record, the first store of this milk tea brand is expected to be located at the corner of Nguyen Thiep - Dong Khoi intersection (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). The store is in the process of completion. The official opening date has not been announced by the company.

Chagee, known in Chinese as Bawang Teaji, is a high-end milk tea chain founded in 2017 in Shanghai by founder Zhang Junjie. The brand rapidly expanded and by 2024 operated more than 5,000 stores across East Asia.

Before this chain, many other companies also did not control their products, allowing the cow tongue line to exist, which was discovered and boycotted by users.
