Market Management Team No. 4 - Phu Yen Market Management Department coordinated with Phu Yen Provincial Police to inspect NTX Seafood Trading Establishment and discovered that Ms. X was the one who directly used a syringe to inject impurities (agar) into 45kg of dead lobsters.
Specifically, at around 1:30 p.m. on June 5, Market Management Team No. 4 - Phu Yen Market Management Department coordinated with the Economic Police Department - Phu Yen Provincial Police to inspect the NTX Seafood Business Establishment, which was operating in the business of purchasing lobsters in Song Cau town, owned by Ms. NT X.
During the inspection, the Inspection Team discovered that Ms. NT X, the business owner, was the one who directly used a syringe to inject impurities (agar) into 45kg of dead lobsters. Ms. X confessed to purchasing lifeless lobsters and then injecting impurities (agar) into dead lobsters to sell on the market.
Ms. NTX's business establishment did not register to establish a business household in cases where registration is required according to regulations. Market Management Team No. 4 - Phu Yen Market Management Department temporarily detained all the above evidence and transferred the file to Song Cau Town People's Committee to issue a decision to impose an administrative fine of VND 11,500,000, forcing the business owner to destroy 45kg of lobsters as evidence of the violation by burying them under the supervision of the Working Group, the total value of the destroyed goods was VND 22 million.
The act of injecting impurities increases the weight and keeps fresh shrimp difficult to distinguish with the nake.d eye, affecting the health of consumers.
Many cases of traders "magically" transforming shrimp with agar jelly and other impurities have been discovered. How can we identify this type of food that poses many potential health risks?
As reported by the press, the functional forces and the Hanoi economic security suddenly inspected a facility that was injecting impurities into black tiger shrimp to sell to customers for profit. In fact, this is not the first time the act of injecting agar powder into shrimp to increase weight has been discovered.
Agar powder is a product extracted from red algae. With the ability to create food adhesion, agar powder is used in the processing of jelly, vegetarian ham, cakes and some other dishes. Because of its low price, colorless, odorless, agar is often used by traders to increase weight and at the same time "magically" make shrimp more eye-catching.
Normally, the subjects will mix agar powder with ho.t water, then use a homemade bottle and pump to inject it into the shrimp. Each shrimp after being injected with filler will become plump and round. 1 kg of shrimp after being injected will become 1.2 - 1.3 kg and the size of the shrimp will also be increased, for example, from 30 shrimp/kg, after being injected, it will only be 23 - 24 shrimp/kg, so the price will also increase.
Agar is extracted from plants and is completely non-toxic. However, when used for the wrong purpose, it poses many potential health risks.
According to experts, seafood in general and shrimp in particular when injected with impurities (especially liquid impurities) is a suitable environment for many types of dangerous bacteria to grow. If eaten, there is a risk of poisonin.g, contracting dangerous diseases such as cholera, diarrhe.a, typhoid, and digestive disorders.
More dangerously, in cases where traders "magically" transform spoiled shrimp into eye-catching products, consumers can easily be fooled and face a high risk of poisonin.g.
In addition, if the seller uses toxic preservatives such as borax, urea... it will be extremely dangerous. People who eat it are at risk of acute poisonin.g. Long-term use will cause disorders of the thyroid gland, nervous system...
According to the recommendations of the authorities, when choosing shrimp, if you see that the shrimp is hard and straight, it means that the shrimp has been injected with impurities. The gills of shrimp injected with impurities are hard and swollen while the gills of real shrimp are usually soft and flat. When you flip the gills of the shrimp, you will immediately detect this, because the gills of shrimp injected with jelly will be tight, while the gills of normal shrimp will be very soft. When jelly is injected, the shrimp will have 2 layers, which are the meat layer and the jelly layer, so the eater should carefully peel off the gills or shell.
