On the evening of February 13, District 1 Police (HCMC) are consolidating the case file to handle HTX (born in 1987, residing in Lam Dong province) to investigate the act of "Taking advantage of social networks to share false information".
At the police station, X admitted to the crime. HTX stated that the incident of being pickpocketed by 2 people at the gate of Children's Hospital 2 as reported in the clip was not true. In fact, X. accidentally lost 9.5 million VND while traveling from Mien Dong Bus Station to Children's Hospital 2.
The purpose of X. posting the above clip is to ask the community to share it on social networks so that everyone can support and donate to have enough mone.y to see a doctor for his chil.d and buy a bus ticket home. The amount of mone.y that everyone donated was transferred to the bank account under the name of the cooperative, which was more than 28 million VND.
Of which, X. paid nearly 1 million VND for hospital fees, 150,000 VND for motorbike taxi fare, and currently has nearly 27.5 million VND left in his account. X. has now deleted the clip from his personal social media account.
Previously, on February 10, a clip of X. holding her chil.d and crying in front of the Children's Hospital 2 was circulated on Facebook. In the video, the woman said that at around 4:30 a.m. on February 10, 2025, she brought her chil.d from her hometown to the hospital for a medical examination. While waiting for a car outside the hospital gate, two people came to ask for directions, showed her her phone, and after a while, she didn't know anything else. Then, the two people picked her pocket, losing all the 9,500,000 VND she had saved for her chil.d's medical examination. This video received the attention of social media users and nearby residents.
A representative of Children's Hospital 2 said that after receiving information on social media, the hospital's Board of Directors directed relevant departments to quickly coordinate with Ben Nghe Ward Police (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) to extract security cameras and investigate to clarify the case. At the same time, the hospital proactively sought information about the chil.d patient.
After the clip was posted, many benefactors tried to contact and support mone.y for X. to see a doctor for his chil.d. However, many accounts on Facebook said that X. holding her chil.d and crying in front of Children's Hospital 2 was a staged act to deceive people and warned people to be careful.
The police force quickly extracted security cameras from the hospital and surrounding households. The results determined that at 4:37 a.m. on February 10, a woman carrying a bab.y walked from gate number 4 to Children's Hospital 2. At 6:18 a.m., the mother and chil.d walked across the street to have breakfast, then re-entered the hospital in the area in front of the lobby to wait for examination, and at 6:49 a.m., they turned on their phone to livestream.
The two continued in the hospital lobby, at 12:37 pm they went to lunch and at 1:22 pm they returned to the hospital. At 2:08 pm the woman and the bab.y went to gate number 5 to catch a motorbike taxi and leave.
Based on the results of the inspection and security camera retrieval, Children's Hospital 2 confirmed that the information the woman shared on social media was completely false. The conclusion from the police was that there was no staged pickpocketing incident in front of the Children's Hospital 2 gate as reported.
Based on the above investigation results, the hospital calls on people to stop sharing this video and transfer mone.y to the account number provided by the woman. Before receiving information calling for support, people are advised to be vigilant and carefully study the content.
Lawyer Phung Van Hieu, Binh Duong Province Bar Association, said that according to Clause 1, Article 8 of the 2018 Law on Cyber Security, acts of using cyberspace to provide false information causing confusion among the people are prohibited.
According to Article 101 of Decree 15/2020/ND-CP, amended by Clause 1, Article 1 of Decree 14/2022/ND-CP, acts of taking advantage of social networks or electronic information sites to provide or share false, distorted, slanderous information, or information that affects the reputation of organizations and individuals will be subject to administrative sanctions. Specifically, a fine of 10 - 20 million VND will be imposed for acts of sharing fake, distorted or untrue information.
