After ordering a dish of banh cuon cha from a restaurant in Da Nang via a food delivery app, the girl suddenly discovered maggots crawling on the piece of cha after taking a bite.
"Ordered a 40,000 VND rice cake but there were maggots in the patty, really scary. After taking a bite, I saw something moving, looked closely and saw maggots in the patty, really haunting", female customer N. left a review about the hot rice cake restaurant on Phan Dang Luu street (Hai Chau district, Da Nang) on the food delivery app.
Ms. N. said that after discovering the piece of ham with maggots crawling inside, she reported it to the restaurant as well as the delivery unit. However, after waiting for 2 days without receiving any response, she was very upset. She posted the information on social media to warn everyone.
The female customer shared that she decided to order food because she saw that the restaurant had many 5-star reviews on the app. Normally, N. doesn't pay much attention, but this time the piece of ham was quite big, she took a bite, put it down, and then saw maggots crawling out.
Ms. Tran Thi Nhan, the owner of the banh cuon shop, has confirmed the above information. Ms. Nhan said that she has contacted the person who posted the article to apologize and wishes to be compensated for the order as well as the cost of medicine and medical examination if the customer has health problems.
Ms. Nhan will also deliver another portion of banh cuon cha as an apology. The customer accepted the apology but refused to accept the compensation portion.
The restaurant owner said that on the morning of October 16, the customer texted that he had a headache, fever, and rash, so he asked the restaurant to compensate him and go for a health check. Ms. Nhan wanted to go with the customer to the authorities to resolve the matter. Ms. Nhan affirmed that she has been selling the restaurant for more than 10 years, and that all food is carefully selected before being delivered to customers. All dishes are consumed on the same day and ensure hygiene and safety.
"Because the customer did not specify the amount of compensation requested, I said we would go to the authorities together to ask for witnesses and come up with a reasonable amount to end the incident. The customer said he did not want to receive compensation and accepted the restaurant's apology," the restaurant owner said.
However, the restaurant's food safety certificate has expired since the beginning of the year and is being reissued. Mr. Nguyen Tan Hai, Head of the Da Nang Food Safety Management Board, said: "I have not received any information from customers complaining about maggots in the ham when buying it at a banh cuon restaurant in the area. We will direct our colleagues to check it immediately."
The issue of unsafe food always makes consumers afraid. Previously, the authorities checked a similar case, after a clip of grilled snakehead fish with wriggling maggots, and decided to punish the seller.
A leader of the People's Committee of Ea Tam Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak) said that he had just administratively fined Mr. PNAS (residing on Y Wang Street, Ea Tam Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City) VND 4,250,000 for selling grilled snakehead fish with wriggling maggots.
According to this leader, Mr. PNAS is the owner of a street food business on Y Wang Street, selling food that is not covered, preventing dust, insects, and harmful animals from entering. Not using gloves when in direct contact with cooked food, raw food.
Using processing tools, eating materials, and packaging that come into direct contact with food that do not ensure food safety according to the law. Previously, on Facebook, a 33-second clip appeared, recording the scene of maggots crawling inside a grilled snakehead fish.
In the clip, the people said they bought the grilled snakehead fish for 90,000 VND from Mr. S. on Y Wang Street. After receiving the information, at around 9:30 p.m. on April 9, the Ea Tam Ward authorities went to the grilled snakehead fish shop to check. However, at that time, the shop owner had stopped selling.
At 3:00 p.m. on April 10, the Ea Tam Ward authorities coordinated with the Buon Ma Thuot City Health Department to continue to inspect and make a record at the grilled snakehead fish shop that was reported. At this time, Mr. PNAS was identified as the shop owner.
