500 PH 'disrupt' school in Hanoi: students travel 4-5km inconveniently, then change their mind at 90 minutes

Just past the full moon of July, Tay Mo 3 Primary School (Nam Tu Liem District) was hit by bad luck, when 500 parents gathered at the gate to question the fact that their children were not accepted to school even though their houses were close to the school and had to go to school 4-5km away.

Accordingly, their children have to go to Ly Nam De Primary School (located in Mieu Nha, Nam Tu Liem), 4-5km from home, which is very inconvenient for travel.

Some parents said that they were previously informed about the separation of Tay Mo 1 school and Ly Nam De Primary School to Tay Mo 3, following the route of residential group 10. Many parents living near Tay Mo 3 school have applied for their children to attend the school for convenience in commuting.

However, recently, parents received a notice that Tay Mo 3 School only accepts 200 students. Because the quota for separating students from Tay Mo 1 Primary School is full, students studying at Ly Nam De Primary School must still study at their old school.

According to parents, all students in grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 at Ly Nam De Primary School were not transferred. This made parents extremely upset and they flocked to Tay Mo 3 Primary School.

Parents say that the zoning is unreasonable when their children cannot attend a school near their home but have to travel 4-5 km away. Why ask parents to submit a transfer request and then report that they have run out of money when the new school year is approaching?

At around 10:20 a.m., after nearly four hours of waiting, hundreds of parents were invited to the school to work. Present at Tay Mo 3 Primary School, answering VTV24, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Tam, Deputy Head of Nam Tu Liem District Department, said that this morning, when the Department of Education came to the school, they first apologized for making parents gather early in the morning with a worried and uneasy mood.

Faced with that reality, the Department of Education and Training reported to the People's Committee of Nam Tu Liem District and proposed a solution, which is to propagate so that people understand that Tay Mo 3 Primary School is a public school separated from Tay Mo Primary School and is for children in the ward.

"After separating grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and recruiting new grades 1, the total number of students at Tay Mo 3 Primary School now has 30 classes with 1,111 students. With the current number and number of students, it has exceeded the target of 30 classes with a maximum of 1,050 students per school," according to the Department of Education and Training of Nam Tu Liem District.

Also according to the Department of Education and Training, the policy of Nam Tu Liem District is to strive to turn Tay Mo 3 Primary School into a high-quality school soon, so it is necessary to maintain the number of students meeting the prescribed standards.

All students (grades 2, 3, 4, 5) separated from Tay Mo Primary School and newly recruited for grade 1 are students in Tay Mo ward according to the prescribed enrollment route, which includes groups 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and the undivided building in Vinhomes Smart City urban area, Tay Mo ward. All grade 1 students are recruited according to regulations, according to the assigned route with the enrollment target for the new school year being 400 students.

However, due to the rapid population growth, the school had to recruit more students. At the end of the enrollment period, the enrollment exceeded 60 quotas, so there are now 460 first graders divided into 13 classes. Those who do not submit their applications within the prescribed time are considered to have no need.

Regarding enrollment, the Deputy Head of the Department of Education of Nam Tu Liem District affirmed that all children on the list to be transferred to Tay Mo 3 Primary School, in the right area, will be admitted to the school. "When Tay Mo 3 is stable, we will continue to enroll all children so that they can study," said Ms. Tam.

On the evening of August 21, the Principal of Tay Mo 3 Primary School, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, met with parents to answer questions related to enrollment for the new school year. Many parents asked and questioned the school about the enrollment plan; enrollment conditions, whether enrollment would continue or the quota was full, and requested that the list of students who had been admitted to the school be made public.

Currently, parents are asked to declare information including household registration, where they have registered their children's study wishes, so that the school and the Department of Education can grasp the information, from which they can arrange schools according to the parents' wishes.
