Recently, social networks were stirred up by the announcement of a fan meeting by the LGBT couple Ninh Duong. This announcement quickly became a topic of widespread discussion about the problem of deviant idol culture leading to many unforeseen consequences.
Ninh Duong Story is the common name of the couple Ninh Anh Bui (born in 1994) and Nguyen Tung Duong (born in 1997). Before becoming famous, they had a love affair that lasted more than 10 years. Ninh Anh Bui used to work in the coal industry and homestay business, while Nguyen Tung Duong was a wedding event organizer.
The turning point came when Ninh Anh Bui started posting humorous and genuine TikTok videos about daily life. In particular, the series about the "maid" with the expressive voice "Jessica" created a viral phenomenon on social networks. The content of the videos was not scripted, simply "mindless" conversations between Ninh Anh Bui and the "maid", but the charm and closeness touched millions of hearts. The "hidden" and mysterious appearance of Tung Duong in the videos created great curiosity. He was nicknamed "Anh Am" by the fan community, an interesting wordplay with Ninh Anh Bui's name.
The coupleâs appeal goes beyond humor. When they went public with their love story, Ninh Duong Story became a symbol of sincere and lasting same-sex love. Their simple, romantic love story livestreams attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers at the same time, creating a deep connection. They are considered a positive inspiration for the LGBT community, proving that true love can overcome all barriers and social prejudices.
To strengthen their relationship with fans, the couple created a unique "ideology": "Ninh Duong Story Company". In which, Ninh Anh Bui is the "chairman", Tung Duong is the "general director", and fans are "employees". This way of addressing each other has created an extremely close-knit and loyal fan community. The "employees" not only support the creative products of the "company" but also participate in promotional activities, spreading the couple's message. This has helped Ninh Duong become valuable names in the eyes of big brands such as Samsung, Klairs, Pepsi, etc., turning them from "internet phenomena" to people with great influence.
Controversy erupts: Fan meeting "equal to concert price" and "kneeling" images
After two years of building their "brand", Ninh Duong Story officially announced their first fan meeting called "Hello September", scheduled to take place at Ho Xuan Huong Stadium, Ho Chi Minh City. The event was expected to be a memorable milestone, expressing gratitude to the "company employees" who have accompanied them. However, everything quickly went astray when information about ticket prices was announced. The "sky-high" prices, from 595,000 VND to 2.8 million VND, caused an unprecedented wave of fierce protests.
Fan meeting ticket prices are divided into several categories, with unique "company" names such as: "HR Department" (2.8 million), "Creative Department" (2 million), "Accounting Department" (1.6 million), "Marketing Department" (1 million) and "Business Department" (595,000). The highest price, which includes 1:1 photo benefits and special gifts, is compared to the concert ticket prices of international and domestic artists.
Public opinion questioned the basis of valuation, claiming that Ninh Duong was just a content creator and not a professional singer or artist. Comments such as "commercializing love" and "taking advantage of fans' trust" flooded forums and social networks, creating a heated debate about business ethics and celebrity responsibility.
The situation became even more serious when shocking images spread online. Hundreds of fans lined up all night, jostling to get tickets. More importantly, the photos and videos recording some young people kneeling, crying, even begging and begging to get tickets shocked even non-fans. This image went beyond the scope of a normal entertainment event, becoming a serious warning about the loss of control in youth idol culture.
In the face of criticism and pressure from the public, Ninh Duong Story decided to cancel the fan meeting. The couple posted a long notice, sending sincere apologies to everyone, especially the "staff" who supported them. They pledged to refund 100% of the 1,338 people who bought tickets, and partially support the travel expenses of fans from afar. Although this action was supported by a small number of people, the majority of public opinion still believed that the couple's image had been severely affected. They were criticized for letting the matter go too far, only deciding to cancel the event when the wave of outrage had reached its peak.
A warning about deviant idol culture
The Ninh Duong Story incident is a costly wake-up call for both celebrities and fans. It exposes a worrying aspect of idol culture among Vietnamese youth: excessive and blind worship. Many young people seem to have lost their sanity, willing to pay large sums of money, even perform thoughtless actions to express their love for their idols, despite their own financial difficulties.
This phenomenon also shows a shift in the objects of worship. Instead of admiring people with real talent and positive contributions to society, many young people easily worship online phenomena based on personal stories. This creates a dependent and fanatical "idol mentality", where the relationship between fans and idols is no longer pure admiration but becomes a transaction, a race to prove loyalty with money.
This incident also raises questions about the responsibility of influencers. When having a large fan base, especially young people, image building and business need to go hand in hand with social responsibility. Original values such as honesty, simplicity, and inspiration should not be over-commercialized, damaging the trust of fans.
