The serious collision of 3 Vietnamese students studying abroad in Frankfurt (Germany) is still causing a stir on social networks. Two of the 3 victims were twin brothers who passed away, the remaining person - TikToker Bop Foam (Trung Hieu, 27 years old) was seriously injured.
The incident took place in the early morning of July 6 and was reported by local media before being shared in Vietnam. According to Hessischer Rundfunk, authorities confirmed that the car had entered the bicycle lane on Mainzer LandstraÃe and hit two electric scooters. The third scooter was driven by a 24-year-old woman, who was not hit but was in shock.
Not only the girl, but several other witnesses also witnessed the incident and were shocked. According to RTL, Arton Kastrati - a bar employee near the scene of the accident, said he was taking out the trash when he heard a loud noise.
"Everything happened very quickly. After the loud noise, I saw the car, with sparks underneath. One of the people on the electric scooter was dragged a few hundred meters. Then I saw people lying on the ground," the witness recounted.
Arton Kastrati immediately called the police. "I thought the car would stop, but it just kept going, going full speed. It was really, really, really bad," Kastrati said, adding that the driver was driving too fast.
At the time of the collision, Danial Mashadi - the owner of the bar mentioned above was on his way home. "Suddenly the phone rang and I received a call: 'Someone died right in front of your bar'" - he recounted in an interview with the media.
Danial Mashadi immediately returned to the bar and witnessed the horrific scene. Days after the incident, he still could not forget the images of that night. Since there were no flowers available, Danial Mashadi and Arton Kastrati lit candles at the crime scene.
According to local media, authorities said there were four people in the car. The car initially fled the scene. Shortly afterwards, police discovered the car 3km away and launched a forensic investigation. "While the investigation was underway, a 23-year-old man returned to the scene and confessed, admitting that he was the driver who caused the collision," local police said.
The suspect is currently in custody. He is facing a series of serious criminal charges including: manslaughter due to negligence causing the death of two people, attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury and leaving the scene after causing an accident.
Authorities executed four search warrants, according to a statement from the local prosecutor's office. Investigators are still looking for evidence to confirm whether the 23-year-old was indeed the driver.
According to German media reports, the incident occurred at around 2:35 a.m. on July 6 (local time), when a group of four people, including two brothers Duy Quang Nguyen and Quang Minh Nguyen (23 years old), Quang's fiancée (24 years old) and close friend Hoang Trung Hieu (27 years old, living in Berlin, also known as Tiktoker Bop), were on their way back after attending a concert by American rapper Kendrick Lamar in Frankfurt.
As the group of friends were traveling by electric scooter through the city center, a black Toyota Corolla Verso driven by a 23-year-old driver suddenly rushed towards them. According to the initial investigation, the car veered off the road and hit the twin brothers head-on, killing the younger brother on the spot and the older brother in the hospital due to severe injuries.
The 24-year-old woman, Quang's fiancee, was the only one who was fortunate enough to be physically unharmed but is suffering from a severe psychological shock. She is currently in Hamburg and will soon be summoned by the police as a witness in the investigation.
Before being shared on Vietnamese social networks, the heartbreaking story of these three international students was posted on GoFundMe - a global fundraising platform and calling for support from philanthropists.
The campaign started on July 20, with a fundraising goal of 100,000 EUR (more than 3 billion VND). As of 6:30 p.m. on July 22, the amount of money that the community has donated to help Trung Hieu is 67,843 EUR (equivalent to 2 billion VND).
